Swim
Comments: Really mediocre swim. Started with guys in our group and made the mistake of thinking they might actually be faster than me, so I positioned myself behind them. WRONG. So I ended up stuck behind all these fast-looking guys for the first 150m or so. Finally got past all of that and found a draft, but she was swimming kind of erratically and then I kept getting cut off by other swimmers. DO THESE PEOPLE KNOW NOTHING ABOUT SWIMMING IN A PACK?! Must they all shoot themselves in the foot, as well as everybody else?? (Getting down off of soap box). Had to use my crappy, giant Speedo goggles because I forgot my race goggles. Lucky thing I had some extras in the car!! What would you do differently?: Start on the side or in the front (as Aaron told me to in my race plan... sorry Aaron...). Transition 1
Comments: Didn't risk the shoes-on-the-bike trick today. Did have a much quicker mount than usual. There was quite the little jog into T1 so that accounted for the majority of the time. Bike
Comments: Went RP for the bike, which was the original strategy. Felt good the whole way. Stomach didn't feel so hot, but I've been feeling a little under the weather so I kind of expected that. Practiced my legal drafting, that was fun. Only got passed by one or two guys, both on much nicer bikes than me. What would you do differently?: Nothing. This was a great split for me. Transition 2
Comments: Had a clean dismount, but braked a little too hard so it wasn't as smooth as I would have liked - however, that's more appearances than anything, the important thing is that it got the job done! What would you do differently?: Get my shoes off a little earlier - just for this course, there's some dips and turns right before the dismount that made getting the shoes off a little challenging. Run
Comments: Good run. Started in RP, which was NOT part of the race strategy, I was supposed to start in training pace and build but I was impatient, and properly ashamed of it. Started to feel a little light-headed towards the end (again, product of being rather sick), but was able to push through just fine. I used my Zoots for the first time in a loooong time. They were just right for 2 miles, but still wouldn't want to use them for anything longer than that. Left knee hurt a little at the beginning, but felt fine after I really started moving. What would you do differently?: Follow the race strategy. (Hides face and blushes). For the split I had, it wasn't worth pushing that hard. Post race
Warm down: Walked for ten minutes. What limited your ability to perform faster: Just being sick. This mono business takes forever to recover from. 5 months and counting... And the whole swim start fiasco. Event comments: A good race and well put on, just like all of the Ironhead races. Jack was surprisingly friendly at this event. Kind of weirded me out. Anyways, I look forward to doing it again tomorrow! Last updated: 2008-12-30 12:00 AM
