Overall Rank = 50/563
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 6/53
Pre-race routine:

Breakfast of Oatmeal with a Banana. Vitargo Drink. Time change was same weekend so that sucked. Woke up at 4:45 and got dressed, went to the bathroom and ate.
Event warmup:

1 mile jog, run with two sprints.
100-150 yard warm-up swim.
Swim
  • 18m 18s
  • 1320 yards
  • 01m 23s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim went well and I cut 42 seconds off last years time. I was in the last wave and I ran into many people and had to diviate to avoid some swimmers. My breathing was better than OC Tri. I did everybreath and then two on each side and then switched and was able to bi-lateral breath at some points. Sighting was right on. First buoy was right in sun so I looked at swimmers on both sides to keep me aligned. Really no opportunity to draft so I just did my own thing. I felt good at end and was not too winded.
What would you do differently?:

I still do not hit my rythmn until 2nd half. Technique a little choppy in begining and I need to focus on smooth and true stroke earlier on.
Transition 1
  • 02m 14s
Comments:

My T1 sucked compared to everyone else. I gave up 30-45 seconds. Had some trouble finding my bike, getting helmet on and glasses got tangled up. Also had trouble getting socks on. Getting on bike I missed my clip and had to stop. First time that has happened.
What would you do differently?:

I need to work on my technique. Getting wetsuit off and helmet on. Need to get better at jumping on bike and taking off.
Bike
  • 1h 02m 45s
  • 24 miles
  • 22.95 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike ride went well. HR was not up in the L1 range but RPE was a solid 8-9.
What would you do differently?:

Get stronger.
Transition 2
  • 01m 10s
Comments:

T1 went well. Cut 20 seconds off last year.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 39m 11s
  • 6 miles
  • 06m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

Run went well. Was runing a 6:30 right out of the gate so slowed down a little. Start of 2nd lap was too slow at sligtly over 7:00 so I picked it up and was able to keep pace. Kept within myself and had enough to sprint it in at the end. I stayed focused and just prayed!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

Jogged for about 3/4 mile afterwards and then walked. Drank my protein/carb mix.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I need to get strong on the bike. Everything else went as good as I could have expected.

Event comments:

Great race and great course. Especially good for beginners.
