Run
Comments: It started out pretty sunny and looked good however as the race went on it became cloudy and started to drizzle and the temps dropped significantly. It was hard to dress for a day like this. I was VERY warm. I had my Pearl Izumi bike jacket on and I was hot at some points. I did the 10K race 2 years ago. It was my first year anniversary of no smoking. This was my first half marathon and the third year anniversary of no smoking! I never thought it would be possible. It was a great start to the race. We were lined up at the 10 minute group. I felt less nervous being with my BT friends. Josh( Boston Beginner) and a I ran together for 10 miles. He paced me the entire time. When I went too fast he told me...It was great to have my own personal Garmin!!! Had it not been for him, I probably would have gone too fast and bonked before the end. Huge thanks to Josh!!!!! Max and Lisa were running the 10K and were with us for much of the begining. Just alot of fun. I had Apple cinnamon hammer gel every 45 min and I carried 16 oz of water with me. The water on the course was NASTY!!!!! Tasted like dirt. I will remember this next year and bring more water. I drank the Gatorade which was OK but only 3 times. Once I split from Josh at the 10 mile mark I was a little nervous again. During training I had a hard time mentally after 10 miles. It was time to HTFU! I told myself ...its just 5K,shut up and run.I turned up my tunes and ran. Right before the end I decided I needed a walk break...why.... I was almost there. Some guy in a green jacket came behind me and said "why are you walking? Were almost there" He was right...I began running again. It was so good to see the finish line. My family and my BT friends were cheering me on. It was a great day and a great race. What would you do differently?: Nothing Post race
Warm down: Walked in the parking lot. What limited your ability to perform faster: If I had dressed a little better I wouldnt have been so hot! Event comments: It was great to meet up with BTers for lunch after the race. Beer food and friends...doesnt get much better! Last updated: 2009-01-05 12:00 AM

I never sleep well the night before a race. Got up at 4:30 am and made some hardboiled eggs, had a bagel, coffee and a banana. Was packed and ready to go by 6:45. Waited for my son Brian to get to my house as he was running too. It was our first half marathon!Left the house by 7:00am. Drive to Hyannis was uneventful I drank a bottle of Gatorade GU en route. Stopped at Dunkin Donuts in Hyannis to use the bathroom because past experience said the lines at the Sheraton are WAY too long. Got my race packet which said my age was 58! Yikes...I told them it was wrong but that did not seem to make a difference to them that they had prematurely aged me!!! Met up with Josh, Kathy G, Lisa and John. SOOO good to see friendly faces when you are nervous.
We did some BT group pics (which came out great and I will post in my blog). Then we ran as a group through the parking lot a few minutes before the line up.
