Pre-race routine:

I stayed about an hour from the race, so drove to Lot A with coffee. Took the shuttle to T2 to leave my shoes and caught another shuttle to T1. At T1, I checked the bike and got ready for the race.
Event warmup:

I took a warm up swim. I was very suprised with the difficulty I had in the water. The cold took my breath away and made me worried about the swim portion.
Swim
  • 14m 1s
  • 604 meters
  • 02m 19s / 100 meters
Comments:

Swim was difficult. This was my first tri and I was not ready for the open water. I was fine with the distance, but the cold and nervousness got to me.
What would you do differently?:

Practice in a cold and open water environment
Transition 1
  • 03m 49s
Comments:

It went ok, because the point to point style race. All items had to be put into a bag and secured, this took an extra couple of seconds, but no big deal.
What would you do differently?:

Be in more of a hurry
Bike
  • 1h 17m 1s
  • 16.8 miles
  • 13.09 mile/hr
Comments:

The cable for my front derailer came loose and I was not able to change sprocket positions. I was stuck in the small sprocket, which was ok considering the hills. I just could not take advantage of the down side of the hills. My rear derailer needs adjustment, it was not shifting smoothly.
What would you do differently?:

Check all of the cables and make sure the rear derailer is adjusted correctly.
Transition 2
  • 02m 49s
Comments:

T2 went ok, I need more practice
What would you do differently?:

Practice this transition and make sure my shoes are tight enough
Run
  • 37m 30s
  • 4.3 miles
  • 08m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

I had to stop and tighten my shoes. My arch on my right foot began to hurt, I had to convince myself that it was ok.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure my shoes are tightened
Post race

What limited your ability to perform faster:
