Swim
Comments: So the hooter goes off and the biffo begins. I was on my own and in the 4th wave today so it was a PLEASENT start. Strokes were good and breathing was great. Drafting was excellent except at one point I was a little TOO close when the girl I was drafting decided it was too much and breaststroked suddenly... I got smashed in the Schnoz and veered a little too far right to recover. Breathing got a little difficult because it felt like I had a blood nose! A quick check while sighting and proved otherwise so I just kept going... not feeling the greatest but okay. happy with the swim time, BUT this time also includes a 300m run over a slippery bridge into transition!!! What would you do differently?: Draft - but maybe sit a little to the side instead of RIGHT ON other's feet... Transition 1
Comments: DID REALLY WELL here... The mounting area was a mess so I ran past to the front of the group and SCOOTERED the heck out of there... What would you do differently?: Nothing really... Judged this really well! Bike
Comments: I love the fact I improved in my age group and yet lost like 50 places overall... damn... Hadn't done much training in the lead up to this race so I wasn't expecting anything. I still gave it a good crack though! HIGHLIGHT was being chased down by Michaelle Jones' twin sister (in full Michaelle gear!) and holding her off for a while!! (she got me in the end! She's WAAAAY too fast!) nothing much to say really except NUTSED IT! Bit dissappointed with my average speed - but that's what I get for not training for two weeks... What would you do differently?: Eat more jelly dinosaurs! They were so YUMMY! Transition 2
Comments: FLYING transition again... Knee guard on, helmet off shoes on, grabbed everything and WENT... What would you do differently?: Not a single thing... Run
Comments: First RUN after being given all clear by Physio, but just to be safe I was wearing my knee guard again. I went all out... BUT My body is telling me GO FASTER GIRL! GO FASTER! and my legs are telling me "Get stuffed!!! She's put on 5kg and we've only just recovered from injury... We're going as fast as we freaking well can!" The 5km was a circuit this time. NO LAPS! BUT the majority of it was in the blinding sunshine reflecting on bitchument and it was RADIATING heat. I'm VERY lucky we were only the 4th wave to go that morning... I drank one tossed one at each station and did really well to keep cool. I didn't SLOW or walk the aid stations this time. I ran the whole way. THE KNEE HELD! YAY!!! the pace was GOOD. Sure people were overtaking me now but I was also overtaking others for a change. You wouldn't believe how many walkers there were today! I was in with a shot! Down the finishing chute and I there was a really big TV flashing up results as people finished... LOL I couldn't see myself. FUNNY eh? What would you do differently?: Tell my legs to shut the heck up and deal with it! We're going faster next time!!! Post race
Warm down: stretching, powerade, watermelon and more dinosaur lollies! What limited your ability to perform faster: not training the weeks before! Event comments: this is my first Sprint distance at Luke Harrop! YAY! While the course was slightly different this year due to the increase in numbers it was still lots of fun! However the overnight racking announced AFTER I'd booked into this race meant accomodation as well and the cost has climbed... This may be my first and gold coast full distance sprint. Woke up, walked 30mins to the start in the dark brandishing my track pump as a "warning" to any drongos still coming down off the saturday night high... Set up transition, pumped tyres and went back to pick up a paper near finish line. Settled in and watched the kids races while reading...
Walk to the start, warm up laps, treading water
