Swim
Comments: Pretty good swim. Would have done better if I would have stood up sooner but the swim was going well so I wanted to keep swimming. Frustrating when you are swimming and people are wading past you in waist high water but I figured it saved my legs a bit more than theirs....Goggles were GREAT! First time in a while I did not have a fogging issue with my goggles. Stopped at a dive shop and got a suggestion of cleaning them with toothpaste and then applying anti fog and it worked like a charm. What would you do differently?: Swim a few strokes or so before getting started. Had a little bit of the shock factor when first diving in. Had to take about 5 or 6 strokes with my head out of the water before getting into rythym. Transition 1
Comments: Slow transition in my mind. Everything went well it just seemed like I was moving in slow motion. I wasn't really out of breath or exhausted but I think I might have actually had a little sea sickness from the waves. What would you do differently?: Take dramamine prior to the race. Bike
Comments: Pretty good bike. Starting out on the steep hill was tough. Took a while to catch my breath and get into a good rythym. By Mile 3, I was feeling better and in a groove. Butt and lower back got sore for the last 10 miles. Cadence was a little low but felt comfy. What would you do differently?: More bike training. Didn't really put a lot of biking miles in with the marathon training. Improve cadence a little too. Transition 2
Comments: Good transition. Happy with this one, everything went pretty smooth. Run
Comments: Started out with that darn hill again. Usually I come ripping out of T2 on a good clip. Today, I just came out casual and I think that set me up for a little slower pace. The hill caused an 8 minute mile and then the pace did not pick up like I wanted. Didn't feel horrible, just felt like there was no more fuel in the tank. What would you do differently?: I should have maybe run the course? More gatorade...I had a gu but maybe some gatorade would have helped?....get out of T2 at a better cadence/speed to set the stage. Post race
Warm down: Water, water and more water. I love the heat but for some reason, I was THIRSTY! After about 15 minutes, I cooled and drank enough that I felt good. Talked to Jeff Deja for a while and then went to watch Nicole finish. What limited your ability to perform faster: Training for the marathon, I didn't get enough biking in which I think hurt my run more than anything else. Event comments: Another Midwest events....fairly organized for them but a LOT of room for improvement. Last updated: 2009-01-16 12:00 AM

Got up early at 4:30 and went to pick up Nicole, load her and her bike and head down to High Cliff Park. Ariived at the park at about 6am. Trip to the porto potty, body marking and off to set up transition before it closed down at 6:45.
Waited from the time they shut down transition until the time my wave (wave 16) started thirty minutes later. Got the wetsuit bottoms on and watched some of the swimming, put the top on and walked towards the chute. Put on the goggles and then the swim cap and ready to go.
