Swim
Comments: this was my first swim dealing with chop. couldnt breath to the left due to it. I gues bi-laterally breathing is good to know. Swam off Xan (thanks Xan!) on the 1st wave. Xan is a trooper. dude never years a wet suit, and still comes out in the first few. He had a nice tri kit with lots of red and it made it easy to see....I never pushed the swim, I wanted to be fresh. came out feeling good, and was shocked to see I was right in front of Andy Powell. He said bye-bye to me on the bike, but I was more than happy to take him on the swim....came out fresh. What would you do differently?: not much. try and draft better after I lost Xan (or he lost me:) Transition 1
Comments: bad T1, and was shocked to see I was 9th. it helped I got there early and got the best T1 spot, right by the bike exit. just couldn't get shoes on...oh well. got it, and made sure I was in a small ring as the exit is up hill. What would you do differently?: get me shoes on quicker.... Bike
Comments: great bike. good to have the bike back to where I know it should be. Mini muscle was just terrible--feels good to bike how I know I ca. descended the effort, avg. 286 watts and finished the last half 290 plus and last quarter I avg. 297. hit 49 mph, which was fun, but almost bit it. my main goal was to descend the bike, and come off strong. I really nailed it based on my goal. there was some fast people today. What would you do differently?: not much. I paced this great and nailed my plan. Transition 2
Comments: great T2, with the exception of not being able to get my feet on top of my shoes while clipped in...technically, this is not T2, but it cost me some time. Still crushed T2, 2nd overall. I came in and didnt see any bikes, I thought an overall was within reach...I left the bike in 6th place. What would you do differently?: get me feet on my shoes while on the bike Run
Comments: I did very well on this run. my goal again was to descend the effort. 1st mile was 6:57, 2nd mile was 6:27, 3rd mile was 6:17 and final .3 miles was 5:32, total run was 6:30...shows up as 6:50, but long course. I ran down one runner, which felt great as it is someone I respect greatly in the sport. it was the first time I ran down someone I respect in the sport for speed. (I respect several people for different reasons). If felt great to do that. To chase someone down who I know is good. Who, coming in, I would have put before me. It made me feel as though the hard work is paying off. of course, seeing Travis Kuhl and Andy Powell come around as the leaders made me realize there's more work to do. Kids were flying....dudes can run. Travis must have been doing 5:30s, Andy 6:10s or so.... What would you do differently?: not much Post race
Warm down: pizza. that was good. chilled with Xan for a little. hung out with Maramdaddy and spoke with tons of people from tri-club. my mom came to watch which was great. she had fun watching. got a massage What limited your ability to perform faster: not much Event comments: great race. this is my tri-cubs race, so I see a lot of faces I know. there were some fast people here. my time would have won the race 2 years ago, so the RD told me. the winner of the sprint set a course record, as was intermediate. had a power bar and banana with coffee. spoke with a bunch of people I know from tri-club and the area. took in the scene. last year I volunteered at this triathlon and that was my first tri experience. I couldnt beleive it had been one year. I reflected on all that occurred over the year and got myself mentally prepared.
nada.
