Swim
Comments: This was a rough swim. I always seemed to have someone crawling over me or me eunning into someone else. I got kicked in the face once but no damage done. It was really hard to find a lane and get into a groove. I was pretty tired after this just from the constant navigating and the starting/stopping. Even with all the work I had the EXACT same split as last year. What would you do differently?: Not sure on this one, it is just a short swim with lots of turns. No major opportunities to get into a rhythm. Transition 1
Comments: Nothing really to report here Bike
Comments: Decent ride, a little slower then last year. There was a pretty good headwind for most of the first lap and the paths were crowded. What would you do differently?: Need more speed training Transition 2
Comments: Decent T2, seemed to be in/out quickly Run
Comments: This is where I feel I did really well (for me). I remember last year having trouble on this with a fall on the smooth sand and having to walk before the first mile. This year I was able to pick up a fast, comfortable pace and hold it. My splits were really good (9:35, 9:35, 8:55). I am really happy with this run, especially with the sub-10 splits, comfortable feel, and the negative split on mile 3. What would you do differently?: Probably could have gone faster but I am not complaining. Post race
Warm down: Easy walk to recover while finding some food and drink. Event comments: I really like this race. It is a good introduction to the season. I am really happy with my performance, even though I had the EXACT same time overall and on the swim split. I was slower on this year's bike but faster on this year's run. Arrived to the race early and had plenty of time to set up. I just waited around until the start.
No formal warmup, easy stretch of the arms before the swim.
