Run
Comments: the three of us just chatted and ran comfortably for the first 6 miles or so. heidi's pace kept creeping up and we had a few miles 10-20 seconds faster than planned, but overall we were all under control and just enjoying the day. the weather was overcast and warm. there was a little bit of wind, but you really couldn't ask for better conditions. things started to tighten up a bit around 10 or so as we made our way back to the starting are to begin the second loop. heidi decided that it was better to ease off and enjoy the day and i agreed. doug was having a great day and had a pr in mind so he continued on. from there we just kind of made our way around the course. we talked and joked and counted down the miles. i stopped to hit a bathroom once and heidi stopped to climb some monkey bars, but for the most part we just ran on. we walked a few aid stations late, but even that was limited. once it started raining and we saw we could break 4 hours i think the focus became cold beer and warm clothes. we made it across the line and added another state to our list! What would you do differently?: nothing. great run. Post race
Warm down: found doug and drank bunch of beers. waited for k and nate to come in but they exceeded everyone's expectations and we missed them! Event comments: good: - plenty of parking and aid stations - good shirt, bag, towel. - plenty of post race beer - ponchos for everyone in the rain - excellent volunteers average: - finish line munchies - course - expo bad: - post race party at house of blues (it was 10 miles away, terrible food, and they kicked everyone out before any music started) Last updated: 2009-02-02 12:00 AM

Myrtle Beach Marathon
57F / 14C
Overcast
Overall Rank = 674/1968
Age Group = M30-35
Age Group Rank = 69/145
we decided to do the myrtle beach marathon when i wanted to do a spring marathon and the tybee island marathon got canceled. i didn't have any real goals. i just wanted to run with some friends and have a good time. nate and k were going to run together and heidi, doug, and i were starting together. we decided to run the first half at heidi's bq pace and then re-assess at that point and decide what to do.
i had a bagel w/ peanut butter and drove over to the start. there were a few road closures so we got there without much time to spare. luckily, heidi spotted doug just before the start and we got going.
