Pre-race routine:

Didn't eat anything since the race kicked off at 7:20. Just had some pasta the night before and swam 1000 meters the morning before the race.
Event warmup:

Ate two power gels and took some deep breaths.
Swim
  • 00m
  • 437 yards
  • / 100 yards
Comments:

Kinda freaked out on the first 200 meters of the swim. I don't know what it was but I started breathing heavily and losing a lot of energy. I kinda freaked out in the open water and felt like my wetsuit was constricting my breathing. It was a very uncomfortable feeling but thankfully this passed by after 200 meters and I finally got into a groove.
What would you do differently?:

Wish I would have worn my wetsuit for a couple practice open water swims. It so different when your in the pool doing laps vs. an open water swim. I just have to man up and jump into the ocean more to build up a tolerance for the open water and adjust to my wetsuit.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Felt good on the transition. Was quick to change out my wetsuit and jump right into biking mode.
Bike
  • 00m
  • 9 miles
  • 0.00 mile/hr
Comments:

Still don't fully trust my bike yet so I was a little slow on the turns but in the end I felt good and fast.
What would you do differently?:

Spend more time on the bike or test out other bikes to validate that mine could be messed up. Have to seriously look into my bike and if I need a new one.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Snappy on this.
Run
  • 00m
  • 3 miles
  •  min/mile
Comments:

Kept a great pace and felt good but not strong. It was hard moving from the road bike to the running and took about a mile to get into a groove which happened last year as well.
What would you do differently?:

Consider a TRI bike to help with the transition from bike to run and conduct more brick workouts that stress this level of endurance.
Post race
Warm down:

Ate a TON of bagels.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Missed a couple days of training due to work.

Event comments:

Overall, this was a fun race. I felt a lot stronger than last year and I'm looking forward to the next one in June.
