Pre-race routine:

Got out of bed and prayed that my stomach virus was a thing of the past!! Had some coffee. Gave my very sick wife a pep talk, (Great job Helle). A group of friends that were also racing met us at the house and we drove to transition. Muffin/yogurt and coffee for breakfast.
Event warmup:

Too the long walk down the beach and streched my foot!
Swim
  • 19m 51s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 13s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim had worried me for a long time. First ocean swim and it was like being on a ride! The current was FAST. All those sleepless nights were a waste of time. The best swim I have ever had. I wanted to keep going. I think this swim can give a VERY false sense of security. It would have taken me twice as long in a lake.
What would you do differently?:

Worry less!!!
Transition 1
  • 01m 24s
Comments:

Quick transition, I could have been faster. but I wanted to make sure I didn't forget anything
Bike
  • 1h 11m 2s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 20.99 mile/hr
Comments:

Great course flat and fast. This being my first oly, I didn't want to burn it all on the bike. I rode hard but well within myself. I passed a lot of tri bikes and never saw them again. I wonder how much a tri bike makes a difference in speed?? Great ride!
What would you do differently?:

Go a little harder, drink more and take on more nutrition!!
Transition 2
  • 01m 27s
Comments:

pretty quick. I had to dig in my bag for some extra gels. I was starting to feel my stomach virus kick in!!!!
Run
  • 1h 14m 10s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 11m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

I totally exploded on the run. I have been suffering Plantar faciitis for the last 2 months and have not run in 7 weeks. I felt that on the run. I felt as though I had forgotten HOW to run. I was changing my foot strike and trying to find the most comfortable way to run. I really suffered. Without a doubt the worst run of my life. I walked a lot. Thanks to our cheering section (thanks guys I think you helped a lot of people get by!!!) at mile 2 1/2 I picked it up a bit, but the last 2 miles were brutal!!
What would you do differently?:

Be healthy get this plantar thing under control and actually train for the run!!
Post race
Warm down:

Took on water hugged my little boy and waited for my wife to come in.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Injury and a stomach virus the last 4 days before the race(does it get much worse??!)..... I can't even believe we raced!!!

Event comments:

Great race I am very happy we chose it for our 1st OLY. Tons of volunteers great venue. We will be back next year healthy and injury free!!!
