Swim
Comments: Spent the whole course zig zagging... over and over again. Sigh. The drafting was pointless cause the people I swim with also veered off course and couldn't swim more than 20 seconds without a break. I still managed to pass a bunch of people and only got passed once. .. but obviously all the other women in my AG are much faster than me! eep! What would you do differently?: Well. Obviously I need to spend more time practicing in open water. I also need to spend more time swimming with others. I could have swam properly (with my head underwater like a normal person) I could have worked on sighting distances so I didn't spend so much time making up for swimming off course. Transition 1
Comments: My problem wasnt the wetsuit.. per se. It was that the suits zipper pull strap got wrapped around my heel somehow. Then.. it took me a good 20 seconds after running up that horror of a hill from the lake to get everything together. What would you do differently?: be careful when taking off the suit. Different post swim re-plenish fluids. Gatorade is fine during my workouts.. but doesn't work well during a race. also.. should've run with my real shoes (or backup shoes) instead of warming up in the grass with no shoes.. it hurt my feet. Breakfast was fine. Bike
Comments: the GU.. doesn't really work great in real race situations... something about that.. or the gatorade or the combo made me a little nauseus and belly pain. That made my bike much slower than it could have been. Was desperate for aerobars on the downhill portions. Didn't wear socks so i had a bit of pain. Bike was clean and tires were inflated. That went well.. What would you do differently?: Wear socks. Find different race nutrition routine. work on increasing average speed and cadence Transition 2
Comments: was feeling better at the end of the bike. So.. this transition went ok. only finished half a gu. What would you do differently?: Gotta practice the running dismount.. etc Run
Comments: The only reason I wasn't the SLOWEST runner in my age group was because the girl after me DNF.. so no run time for her. Woot. :( I needed more gatorade -- none at drink stops.. could've taken my small running bottle and think I would've done better. Also I walked for about one and a half minutes at about mile 1 What would you do differently?: Obviously more training. Socks! Run a bit harder. Post race
Warm down: a bit of walking What limited your ability to perform faster: No socks. Improper warm up... due to 30 minutes of wait time in line before the swim... and it was kinda cold before the swim. I went off course too much. I didn't drink enough. I didn't train enough. Event comments: It was a good race. The road was really crappy. At least one person got the dreaded double flat tires. It was organized well enough. It was nice to have the staggered start but it ended up being a really long time to just stand in a wetsuit cold. But, the volunteers were nice.. everything was organized as I expected.. the ankle straps that were provided were neoprene which was nice.. but they felt like they were coming off a few times. Also running up a hill out of the lake kinda sucked. I blame most of the problems on my own physical abilites. Last updated: 2009-02-12 12:00 AM

Got up really early and drove to the race. Breakfast was a half of a bagel. Had some coffee and started pushing fluids.
Went for a short run. It was pointless though.
