Swim
Comments: I hit the bottom with my knees when I jumped in. It was very shallow. What would you do differently?: Not hit my knees......and probably practice a little more than not at all. Transition 1
Comments: ummmmm....just looking at the time should tell you something. I had to run to the furthest rack barefoot on the FREEZING cold gravel. Once I finally got there everything was soaking wet. I managed to get my pants and shirts on after a few minutes of drying off. I wanted to put my socks on because it was so cold. Got the shoes on, but then realized I had made a mistake. I got the right sock on, but managed to forget the left one. So, I took the left shoe off and put the sock on, but fell and got gravel on the foot. When I got the shoe on I realized I couldn't stand having the gravel in my shoe, so I had to take it off again and get the gravel out. So I finally got to my helmet and was about to leave when I realized that I forgot my ear warmers. I was not about to ride without my ears covered, so I unbuckled the helmet, put the ear warmers on and put the helmet back on. I finally got out of transition.....and only after 6 minutes! Slowest T1 EVER! What would you do differently?: Probably remember both socks and the ear warmer. Bike
Comments: There was absolutely no point during this ride where I had fun. I just kept peddling and paying it would be over quickly. What would you do differently?: Not do this course ever again. Transition 2
Comments: Easy tranisition. It was a little hard to run with the shoes on the wet gravel. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: I like this course a lot. The people on the course were very supportive. I like being able to do an out and back becasue you have lots of people to cheer on and to cheer me on. I was pretty happy with my run once I could feel my feet again. What would you do differently?: Nothing really. Post race
Warm down: Drank a half a bottle of water and waited for Jo to come in. We all went to the car and dropped off our bikes. I changed clothes and went inside to get my hardware. What limited your ability to perform faster: The cold, wet, weather. Event comments: Everything was great at this race except the road conditions. Riding on chip seal is no fun at all. I don't think I'll ever ride that same course again. Also, the reason the events weren't on time was because the ambulance wasn't there yet. I am glad Jack is so concerned with safety. I wouldn't want to start the race without the ambulance there!!! Oh, and there was still some guy in the top 10 that didn't know how to swim! We counted, and he got passed by 25 people in the water! He was dog paddling on the 3rd lap. I really thought Jack would jump in and pick him up out of the water (as he warned of this in the pre-race meeting). Everyone was aggrivated at the swimmer. I even saw someone (who shall remain nameless) swim right over him because he wouldn't get out of the way. Last updated: 2009-03-15 12:00 AM

Got up after a night of freezing at our cabin. We got dressed and drove the 25 miles into Athens. When we got there we parked and walked our bikes up to be checked in and so we could be body marked. We were pretty happy the body marking was inside because it was cold! We went to set up transition, and realized how cold it was, and that walking in wet gravel when your feet are cold is NO FUN! We then sat around and listened to the pre-race meeting, then went downstairs and watched the beginning fo the swim.
Nothing warm about the event. Jo and I just watched the guys swim.
