Swim
  • 07m 28s
  • 300 yards
  • 02m 29s / 100 yards
Comments:

I could not get into a good breathing rhythm. Partly because of the shortened swim from 550 yds. to 300 yds. and probably partly due to the cold water. This waas also my first OWS.
What would you do differently?:

Practice my OWS, and work on getting into a breathing rhythm quicker into my swims.
Transition 1
  • 03m 21s
Comments:

This was my first time in a wetsuit in a race condition. I had a hard time getting the top velcro closure undone to unzip the suit. Once I got a little help from another racer everything came of easily.
What would you do differently?:

Practice the on and off of the wetsuit before race day.
Bike
  • 1h 00m 9s
  • 15 miles
  • 14.96 mile/hr
Comments:

Having not trained on a course with many hills, I thought this part of the race went relatively well. Toward the end of bike course I was actually passing some riders. I felt that I maintained a good pace going up the hills.
What would you do differently?:

I need to work on finding some training rides with hills to climb. I also need to work on changing gears at the right time to not have too much slack in my pedaling as I go from a downhill to an uphill (I shifted too early a few times and lost some of my momentum).
Transition 2
  • 02m 35s
Comments:

T2 was much better than T1. I slipped my feet out of my shoes before I came to the end of the ride and before I got to the dismount line. I did drag my shoes against the road a couple of times as my cranks turned. I stopped at the dismount line and then got off rather than jumping off the bike. I was able to run to my rack and get changed into my socks, shoes, hat and race belt without too much problem.
What would you do differently?:

Practice the bike dismount and see if I can jump off instead of come to a complete stop and then dismount. Figure out how to not drag my shoes against the road as I get ready to go into the end of the ride.
Run
  • 35m 5s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 11m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

I had to stop and walk a few sections going up the steep hills on the trail and once on the road. My energy was just about spent.
What would you do differently?:

I probably need to add a little nutrition to the end of my ride to have more energy for the run.
Post race
Warm down:
