Pre-race routine:

Had my normal bagel, banana and orange juice. I had started my period so I took 2 midol along with 2 Ibuprofin to head off inflammation in my sprained ankle
Event warmup:

Just the wetsuit wiggle which I did really super fast as I had to wait for an hour in the potty line. Yikes. Missed a little nutrition here as well.
Swim
  • 1h 41m
  • 4224 yards
  • 02m 23s / 100 yards
What would you do differently?:

I need to sight better. I kept finding myself off course quite a bit.
Transition 1
  • 10m 38s
Comments:

I was so glad for the volunteers here. The gal who helped me was actually a friend of mine and she practically dressed me. I was so grateful.
What would you do differently?:

Probably not take 800mg of Ibuprofin and 2 midol.
Bike
  • 8h 25m 42s
  • 112 miles
  • 13.29 mile/hr
Comments:

I was really pleased with my bike. I was so worried that I wouldn't make the cutoffs. I made them with time to spare. I am definitely getting stronger as a biker. It just makes me want to work harder to I can get even better.
What would you do differently?:

Probably nothing. I did stop at the med tent in Santa Clara after the first loop to have my blood sugars tested before I went back up that hill. I was having some blurry vision and thought that my diabetes was giving me grief. My sugars were fine. In hindsight, it was probably the the 800mg of ibuprofin and 2 midol that I took from my bike special needs bag at mile 52
Transition 2
  • 09m 32s
Comments:

The volunteers were fabulous. They took such good care of me.
What would you do differently?:

Probably not take yet another dose of 800mg of ibuprofin and 2 midol. This stuff really did me in. I thought that I was preventing problems, but I was really creating a whole bunch of them.
Run
  • 00m
  • 26.2 miles
  •  min/mile
Comments:

Very hilly. Volunteers were fabulous. Many of them held buckets while I puked.
What would you do differently?:

I have wondered whether or not I should have dropped out of the race. Considering that it is Monday night and I still am having troubles, I suppose that I made the right decision. I am hoping that I can completely recover from this. This has made me sooooo sick that I can't hardly move.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Way too much ibuprofin. I was on target to PR. It would have been fabulous! Now I am soooo sick! Puking, bloody diarreah, headaches, blurry vision, lethargy, bloated tummy, . . . yuck. This was a hard lesson to learn.

Event comments:

There were only a couple of things that I would have changed about this race. One would have been to have way more potties in T1. It took way too long to take care of business. That stupid loop on the bike on the way back into town on the second loop was ridiculous. There were so many ways to add additional mileage without doing something so stupid. The run course had a similar stupid loop with four lanes of runners all going different directions. I think the directors could have used a little more ingenuity in eliminating dumb sections like those.
