  • Comments: There is no doubt this was the hardest Ironman I've done. I've heard the DNF rate was at 28%. I know the women's field was only 18% and in looking at the finishers stats, it looks like only 47% of the women finished with the remainder being DNF or DNS. It was an amazingly challenging experience that I wouldn't trade. And I don't regret signing up to do it one bit.

  • Comments: This course is the most beautiful course of all that I have done. It is challenging, but not so bad they should stop hosting the full ironman. The volunteers and spectators were also the best I have ever met. There was not one angry driver on the course. The gear bag and finisher gear was awesome. The athletes breakfast on Sunday was fabulous also.

  • Comments: As always I had difficulty sleeping that night as the race played over in my mind and my sore body never could get comfortable. I woke up at 4:00am and made coffee. Mom and I headed down to the Kona slot allocation at 7:00 and I paid the WTC piper for my entry. We went home and packed and then returned for the awards. I had great time hanging with my Zoot teammates and was very interested to meet Randy. After being called up on stage, he and I spoke about the race. I told him I had no idea he was coming up like that and all he knew was that he was chasing someone in a ZOOT kit but there was 5 of us within 2 miles of each other for most of the race! So I was camouflaged by my team. So I have my third opportunity to go back and race in Kona and I am very much looking forward to it. My last time there in 2010 wasn't the best day and I wasn't in good form. I think my coach and I have come up with a plan that can bring me to that start line healthy, rested, and very fit. We'll see. In the

  • Comments: Summary Would I do it again? Well, there won’t be another full Ironman in St. George so the point is moot. Still, there will be a 70.3 race next year, but I would say it is unlikely I will go back for that either. The timing in early May is not great for me personally and the course is damn hard. Even though I could physically manage the proposed course in a respectable time, there are half-ironman races only 2 hours away or less from where I live. The only race that I am officially signed up for is Ironman Arizona in late November so I will be able to have a nice short training break. I’m glad I got in on the legendary St. George Ironman course, but I’m also damn happy not to have to do it again.

  • Comments: I am very happy I was able to do St George before they moved it to a 70.3. It was a great FIRST. The day wasn't perfect but it WAS everything I hoped it would be.

  • Comments: I really liked St. George. The volunteers were great and the race was very well organized. It's a bummer that they have to cancel the IM, but I'm seriously considering coming back for the 70.3. I'm glad I did the race. It was a tough day and while I can't say I'm pleased with my finish time, I'm proud to have made it through that swim and ridden that bike course. The run - eh - I'll come back and check it out at the 70.3 next May.

  • Comments: To do an Ironman is special. To do one in my home town magnified the whole experience. The hardest part of the day was seeing so many friends and teammates having difficulty and/or DNF'ing. I had my dream day and theirs was a nightmare. Volunteers and aid stations were incredible.

  • Comments: Training: Training in central Indiana for an early May Ironman isn’t ideal and was probably the hardest part of the whole event. I ran a lot of long runs in single digits on sheets of snow and ice. I had to do a lot of my early bike training indoors as well which, in my opinion, is completely mind numbing. As soon as the thermometer was consistently over 35F I was riding outdoors. I finished more than a few rides with numb feet and hands. I found that the hills in southern Indiana’s Brown County State Park more than adequately prepared me for the ascent to Veyo. The good thing for me, considering the weather, is that I do not follow a training schedule. I would do whatever the weather allowed when I had time to work out. If it was raining or snowing, I ran. If it was slightly warmer and clear, I biked. I also was able to sneak a quick trip out to St. George about a month before the race to preview the course and find some warm weather for a 100 mile training ride. That was a big help. Raceday:

  • Comments: St. George is a beautiful little town and great supporter for this race. If anyone wants to find out what they are really made of, they should register for Ford Ironman St. George 2012 and hope for another day like 5/7/11.

  • Comments: 96/287 33.4% of the age group overall. Only need to shave off a little over two hours and I am Kona bound. Ya right! My A goal was 11:50. Just looking at the course online I knew that was not going to happen. B goal was top half of the age group and I hit the top third! Yes! This was a great race with great support and a really tough, challenging course. We raced in perfect conditions 69 degrees and very little wind. The average for that day is 82 and the wind the day before and the day after was terrible. The odds of having the day we had are slim to none. It may happen once every ten years. I won't say that I will not race this Ironman again but it will take several of my friends wanting to do it.

  • Comments: Wow...what a tough course! Like the Wildflower Long Course, the word on the street going in was "tough bike course" but the run was really the challenge--almost entirely hills, up or down. As long as this is an early May race, the swim is always going to have the potential for very cold water. The bike is challenging, but not just because of climbing: The chip seal roads on the loop are a significant obstacle. But the scenery is spectacular and the people of St. George are about the friendliest I've ever encountered (and been a lot of places). Just go in mindful of one bit of race trivia: 13% DNF. Just sayin...
