  • Comments: Please bring back the reverse triathlon course and all its idiosyncrasies. It's a good tri the way they've changed it, but the old reverse tri was a wonderfully unique event with challenges not found anywhere else. I don't expect that it will change back, so I'll have to add one of the other reverse tri's that are now in the local area to next year's schedule.

  • Comments: Overall, I am glad I went and raced. It was fun and doing this race gives me an idea of how it will go in the coming months for the other races I have planned. Its weird how you kind of forget how races are in the off season. I had a blast this weekend hanging out with Yanti, Faeron, Matt and Jocelyn.

  • Comments: UCLA Iron Bruin Race Report March 2, 2008 “Triathlon will humble anybody.” I was waiting for my wave to start when I overheard someone make the above statement while watching the race. I thought to myself, yes, that’s true. I don’t do Triathlon to compete against others. I don’t compete with my age group. I race to compete with myself - to overcome a challenge and to persevere. And here we are waiting for our lowly “Sprint” to start. This is not even close to an IronMan distance; it’s a Sprint. So, how can this itsy bitsy teeny-weeny little race be humbling? Well, it is. UCLA decided to change their course. I was mentally prepared for the 4 mile run, 10 mile bike, ½ mile Run and a 400 meter swim. It used to be more like a “Quadathlon” than a Triathlon but, although it was a challenge, I was looking forward to the ‘old’ setup. A few days before the race I check out the course to prepare for race day. I am already mentally prepared for the race and I find out they change the

  • Comments: I had a great time doing my first triathlon, the race was fun and organized (they could have used someone down by the parking structure but that was about it), the course was challenging, but doable and it was nice to be somewhere I was already familiar with. I think it was the perfect first race for me :).

  • Comments: A great race to get back into the swing of things. First time I've run without any problems. I think I held back a little too much. Can't wait to do this again. Reporting one day after and I feel great, rejuvenated and ready to turn the training up. ChiRunning has really helped my running and my knee.

  • Comments: Overall I thought this was a good race...I'd probably do it again. It'll be fun to see my improvement by this time next year. I should be in a lot better shape and I'm hoping to shave a good 20 to 25 minutes off next time.

  • Comments: Ironbruin is a fun race. The swim is a little wacky, the bike is grueling, and the run is void of water...but overall it was a fun race with great volunteers, a fun expo, schwag and a kick-ass goody bag. It's a great sprint for anyone who like hills!

  • Comments: Packet pickup was very smooth and the goody bag/contents was the best ever. The swim was a no-worse cluster fcuk than most open-waters, though slower swimmers (like slower bikers) should have been advised to stay to the outside. It is a bit bizarre in a sprint to have first/last waves 2 hrs apart. It means the slower runners in the latter waves will have to run in traffic. Bike course was hilly and technical; even a few inches or a foot wider on the 90-degree turn lanes at the bottom of downhills would have been very helpful. For safety, no passing on turns is important, but it was very frustrating, not to mention dangerous, to get stuck behind a bunch of bikers riding their brakes and weaving on those end turns. No mile markers and no water on the run. Volunteers were very plentiful, very helpful, and just rocked. End-of-race expo was small but wonderful. Food was good and plentiful. Raffle was neat and more giveaways for all at the end. Overall, a very well-planned and

  • Comments: Seemed a little disorganized this year, most notably there was no standard marking and some of the volunteers were not able to answer any questions. I have pretty much been sick since Jan so overall not a bad race for only running twice and riding once before the race. No swimming either. So that is why I marked it as Too Hard otherwise it would have been Just Right. I did this last year also and for some reason I really love this race even though it kicks my butt. I will do it every year I am around to do it.
