  • Comments: I still maintain that Endorfun races are the best yet in Texas, but I'm going to have to give this race my new overall "best race experience ever" position (sorry, Keith). We just don't have scenery like that in Texas (ha, or weather!). But truly, the race was amazing, very well done, and unbelievably exhilarating. I want to go back, but I know that it will never be quite as breathtaking as the first time.

  • Comments: I thought this was a well run race. It is something that everybody who does triathlons should try and do at least once. There is no other race like it out there. I had a great time and will be signing up for sure again next year.

  • Comments: I followed my pre-race plan and it worked perfectly. I loved this race and can't wait to go back. With 3 months of training I seriously think could cut 20+ minutes from my time. I would love to have the opportunity to try.

  • Comments: I just loved this race. Hardest race ever (ok, non-IM). Definitely harder than the 3 HIMs I have done!! But absolutely gorgeous. Well worth the expensive race fee.

  • Comments: Best race yet... I will be in the lottery every year for a spot! Its definitely a race you "learn" a little the first year, and could come back much fasterthe next year.

  • Comments: The Escape from Alcatraz is definitely my favorite race yet (although I have high expectations of Ironman Florida this year too). The scenic course, the outpouring of volunteers, and the people and tourists cheering everyone on is spectacular. I hope to do this race again next year (and plan to be better prepared with the right training!).

  • Comments: This event is too big for words. There were several times on the course when I slipped into sightseeing mode and had to remind myself I was racing. I came in BOP but I'm thrilled knowing that I swam the same waves as Andy Potts and climbed the same hills as Leanda Cave. We shared a shuttle to the airport with Craig Alexander, the 3rd place pro, and I can't help but smile when I think that I crossed the same finish line as he did. It may have taken me twice as long but I swam, biked, and ran the very same miles as the pros. The icing on the cake for the whole event was getting to share it with my daughter. Kelly calmed my fears, cheered me on, and totally kicked butt on race day. Jim is so proud of both of us and is still busting his buttons when he talks about our accomplishment. You just can't ask for more than that.

  • Comments: This race is amazing. Incredibly well organized, tons of volunteers, plenty of aid stations, on time. Accenture and TriCalifornia really know how to put on a classy race. It's a beautiful course and an amazing experience. Just as with last year, I had a blast.

  • Comments: You won't find many races that compare in terms of spectacular settings and unique challenges. Far and away, the best of my racing expereinces. Would do this one again in a (Zone 4) heartbeat. I wanted to find a line between relaxation and exhilaration, and that's exactly where I raced.

  • Comments: This was a great race. It was my first time flying with my bike and it was definitely worth the hassle. Despite the cold, windy, and overcast weather, my wife and I had a great time in San Francisco, walking along the coastal bluffs and taking a 2 hour sunset cruise. A great trip! I finished top 39% in my AG and top 28% overall. I would have love to have finished top third of my AG, but I must remember that this is very popular race and many of the top AG'ers come to it. Plus, I had a flat. In the end, I had fun and that's what's really important!

  • Comments: I do have to say this is one of the truly excellent race courses in the world. No matter where you go, people know about Alcatraz. The course is fun and well designed. TriCalifornia did an excellent job of running this race. The only downside is that portions of the bike ride were pretty bumpy with significant pot holes. However, the TriCaifornia team did mark all of the potholes with orange spray paint.

  • Comments: I'm still so in awe I was able to do this race. It was an incredible experience and I loved every minute of it, even the more difficult ones. It is well organized and supported, first timer friendly despite it's difficulty, beautiful, and well worth the time, energy, and money. I'd love to do it again.

  • Comments: I have to say I will do everything possible to do this race again and again. It was fun, challenging and overall just amazing. The run is SO great - it kinda makes me want to try some Xterra races! Tri-Cal events are always well run, tons of support, tons of goodies, plenty of drink and gel stations and they have a gem with this course. I LOVED it. It was everything I hoped it would be - and my expectations were high!

  • Comments: Amazing, amazing, amazing race. I loved and cherished every second of it. At times, I couldn't believe that I was out there doing this infamous triathlon. It was well-organized and well-run. I will definitely either be doing another qualifying race or entering the lottery come November. Escape From Alcatraz tri comes highly recommended via me!

  • Comments: Time last year was 3:21. My goal time for this year was a 3:05. Overall time was a 3:02 for a 19 minute improvement over last year and 3 minutes faster than my goal. I'm stoked! : ) Overall this is a great race and I will do it again if possible. However, if I could I would change two things. First, I would have more portapotties accessible to the athletes during the event so you didn't have to scamper off into the bushes. Second, it would be nice if some parts of the bike and run courses were a little wider since it can get very congested and quite scary especially on the bike.

  • Comments: By far my biggest improvement for this race, even more so than generaly fitness gains, was my mental preparation, positive visualization, and pre-race nerve calming ability. This was a constant active process throughout the last several weeks and months culminating in these past few days. Read my race reports for the Shamrock Shuffle, and the Great Lake Escape to read how lack of control over negative thinking affected my overall races. I was incredibly pleased that this technique worked to my advantange and now that I know it works, will continue to use it and improve on it in the future. Finally, I just can't say how incredible it was to have finished this race. I wasn't always sure I could do it. Those last few miles of the run were so mentally challenging, that to finish the race, makes me think I can really do anything I set my mind to.

  • Comments: This race is dangerous on the bike,,,, If they add more competitors than the 1600 they had this year look for some serious accidents on the bike course,,,, rough streets very narrow bike lanes set up i had to hit the brakes a lot on the downhills to keep from hitting other cyclists..
