  • Comments: This race was one of the most exciting and fun events I have ever done in my entire life! I am so glad I did it and would highly recommend it to anyone else. All three aspects, the swim, bike and run were unique, beautiful and challenging. It was expensive when combining air travel, hotel, food, etc, but well worth it to do this race if even only once. If you've done this race before, you know what I am talking about. If you have never done this race before, try to get in it sometime, you won't regret it.

  • Comments: Here is the deal for me. This is the race that first told me that I wanted to do a triathlon. I toured Alcatraz when I was a teenager. I recall the park ranger saying that it was impossible to swim across the bay due to the cold water and sharks. Once I heard of this race years ago, I knew that someday I wanted to do it. This is a bucket list item if you will. The race was everything I expected. It is extremely well run and the volunteer support is fantastic. Turns out it was easier than expected. It was challenging and there are plenty of areas where something could go wrong. I think it goes back the Alcatraz days where the prison guards put fear into the prisoners that they could not make it. I had the same fear of the swim and bike course but overcame them by racing. This race is a one of a kind and I would encourage everyone to race it at least once. Given the chance I would race this again. I want to add that it was great to have the support of BTer's and the East Side Cool

  • Comments: Check that one off the bucket list. It cost me a small fortune, but it was definitely on the life "to do" list. Nothing beats the experience of this race. From jumping off the ferry to realizing I was swimming in San Francisco Bay to the gorgeous views of the Golden Gate Bridge. Just awesome. I just really wish I wasn't so fat. :( There were just a few little annoying things that for the price you would not expect (um, BIKE STICKERS???). But I would still come back!

  • Comments: I met several BTers in the morning to ride down to transition. I thought we were leaving at a good time to be 'on time'. Well, it seems like eveyone in San Fran runs a little slow! We were some of the FIRST people there and had our stuff set up quickly and were able to grab the first bus to the ferry boat. Me being FIRST to set up? That never happens. Usually I am trying to squeez my bike in somewhere. We arrived at the boat to get body marked and wait for boarding. That probably took about 45 minutes or so. Once boarded, the 'old' people were sent upstairs to our designated holding pen. The three of us found a little section of wall and just hung out and talked. It was really nice. Once everyone arrived, it was really packed full of athletes. It was a completely new experience. I sort of felt like cattle being led to our end! The boat departed at 7:00 am for Alcatraz. We were there in about 15 minutes, so just sort of 'hung out' off shore of the island. They played
