  • Comments: Overall, I love this event, and it's still one of my most enjoyable experiences as an athlete. And the organizers do a really good job of coordinating a really complex event that spans 200 miles. Chapeau to them. But I also felt that this year Ragnar was cutting corners while increasing fees. Hope they're not going the way of other companies that are simply trying to reap maximum profit in order to be sold to a private equity investor.

  • Comments: This is an excellent race - so much more to enjoy than in a regular race. In fact, think of it less as a regular race than as mounting a military campaign with 11 or more friends. I highly recommend trying out a race like this. Ragnar DC is just one among a dozen or so Ragnar relays, and there are many other independent relays with a similar format. The variety in the DC course makes it particularly attractive. The race organization is excellent.

  • Comments: I was so impressed by the organization for this event. The logistics of staging a race like this boggles the mind. Teams are spread out across as many as 10 hours. Routes need to be planned and well-marked (course markings were perfect, even in the dead of night, when they had brightly blinking lights). Countless organizations and municipalities had to agree to be a part of the race. 1000+ volunteers, mostly provided by participating teams, were unfailingly helpful and friendly. Safety measures had seemed like overkill ahead of time, but they turned out to be great. Even the porta-potties were done well: ample supply in all 37 locations, and far cleaner and well-supplied than I'm accustomed to. Race information was excellent, both before and during the race. The course map book given to each van was incredibly useful. And any important updates were effectively transmitted by text messages sent to van leaders. I can't say enough good things about the organization of Ragnar. I'm no longer

  • Comments: Considering some of the pre-race snafus in terms of rerouting and not getting us information as early as we'd hoped, not too much went wrong while we were out there. They didn't cone off as much as had been implied at the team captain meeting and some of the legs were in areas where it really didn't seem safe either from a traffic or "atmosphere" standpoint. The volunteers were helpful though, the signage was pretty decent, except for a few instances, and the routes were nearly accurate (with a few exceptions). The stop with the chicken dinner didn't quite have food ready in time for arriving runners, even though we were told they'd be ready when we were. But there were still fun elements. It was fun as long as it was daylight, lots of teams had awesome vans and themes, so it was cool to see what everyone had done, and one team was even handing out candy :) The ultra runner teams were cool to see, esp. since the ones we saw were all middle-aged dudes - hard core. I'd consider doing this

  • Comments: Originally supposed to be 196 miles, changed to 199 based on course modifications. Rained for my third run segment. 18 out of 67 in the mixed division. My segments included in training log.
