  • Comments: This is my hometown race (well, as close as we have a tri--about 20 miles away near Cottage Grove) and the organizers did a great job with it as always. They were hampered this year by a serious lack of volunteers, plus very few athletes. Only seven volunteers for the whole race. I think/hope this is due to Eugene hosting the World Track and Field Championships this week. I think a lot of prospective participants and volunteers were either spectating or volunteering at the meet, locals out of town due to the crowds, or others avoiding Eugene due to the extreme scarcity and jacked-up prices of accommodation in our area right now. I really hope this race continues in the future--in my opinion, it's up there with Wanaka for the title of "Most Beautiful Triathlon in the World" (plus it is way closer than NZ!). It is not dramatic like NZ but it is beautiful and peaceful and shows the best of my home. I would hate to see it go under.

  • Comments: This is easily one of the most beautiful races I have done and, personally (okay, I am biased, since it's my "hometown" race) I think it is one of the most beautiful races in the world! Probably the only negative is that as the race has grown, they have added many, many categories now (sprint, Oly, aquabike, du, relays) plus prize drawings, so awards drag on and on. My race started at 8 AM, I finished around 10:30, and I think I didn't get my AG award till 1:30; awards probably wrapped up at 2. It can be a long day for children, elderly parents, and pets. But otherwise--it is a well-organized event that showcases the best of what this area has to offer. I'm so sad that I will be leaving Oregon (not my choice) and don't know if/when I'll be able to do this event in the forseeable future. But I was happy to have a good race and finally win my AG here this year,

  • Comments: For a fairly small race (about 300 total in sprint and Oly tri and du), this event is really well-organized and has awesome competition. There were several pros, who compete in their own category and some really strong age-groupers. The woman who won my AG did 2:31; a 50 year old woman did just under that. Crazy stuff. But I like to be pushed, and it's a beautiful race and so close to home!
