  • Comments: After I crossed the finish line I needed help to stay vertical. I had someone help me to the misting tent where I sat and talked for about 10 minutes while drinking fluids. Then I got up and needed help again, so was taken to the medical tent where I laid on a stretcher with an ice pack on my neck and head. After 5 minutes of that I asked a medic to take my blood pressure and found it was 80ish/60ish. So he laid me back down and put in an IV. During the IV my leg muscles all began to Charlie horse while one of the medics tried to help by burying his knuckles in to my cramping muscles. All I could do was lay there and take it! ;( After 20 minutes I was able to get up without passing out and wandered around and enjoyed visiting with fellow athletes.

  • Comments: Was an awesome experience that I doubt I'll forget for a long time. Eventually I'd like to try this again as I feel I need to prove to myself that I can compete rather than just hang on and survive the ride.

  • Comments: The only bad things about this XTERRA are: - They don't use chip timing. That's really not acceptable at a championship race with $20K in prize money - the 9:30AM start time is too late - it would be nice to have only one lap in the swim - accurate distance signage at the event is appropriate but nowhere to be found. Volunteers generally had no idea what distance their aid stations were located at. Since most people are smarter than me, a novice should do the XTERRA Sport race instead of the full-on race. Still, I'm glad I went after the big show and completed it on my terms. If the swim were better, I would have had the perfect day.
