  • Comments: This was the first year since Ironman bought/took over the race. There were some noticeable differences but mostly it was a seamless transition; it went well.

  • Comments: The race organization does a lot of things right, which they have to in order for such a large event to be successful. The shuttles, start area, and security are all on point, as are the plentiful porta-johns at the start area. My only complaint was the very long lines at the after-race festivities. Huge lines for food and porta-johns, but then again there are over 20,000 racers and probably just as many spectators. But overall it's a great race with very good organization/communication at a very unique and beautiful location.

  • Comments: Amazing how organized this event was, particularly given the logistical challenges that shutting down one side of the Bay Bridge must involve. Very organized, awesome, bucket list type event. Would recommend it to anybody. Only complaint I have was the apparently moldy bagels that were handed out in the post-race food bags (they'd stopped putting them in the bags when I finished, but I saw several). Bet you they have that resolved next year.

  • Comments: Racers were present from all 50 states as well as 11 different countries, and it is supposedly one of the 5 largest 10Ks in the country. Security was high - no backpacks or backpack-like hydration systems were allowed; racers needed FuelBelt or handheld type hydration, or these weird little clip on cups they were selling. Police ran undercover as racers, police and Coast Guard were plentiful and present in boats below while police helicopters flew by periodically. Police were stationed at regular intervals across the span as well, with ATVs and on foot. For a first time race of this size (they were expecting 20,000 racers), I was worried there would be problems, because there really were so many ways things could go wrong, but everything went very smoothly (aside from the minor t-shirt snafus, which really aren't anything in the big scheme of things). The shuttles ran on time, the race stayed on time, and even traffic on the westbound span wasn't as bad as I anticipated. I'm
