  • Comments: The event is well-organized but its setting in a tropical developing country poses some unique challenges. Swim was tough--I question the wisdom of having it for AG athletes when many are weak swimmers. To me, the safety setup did not look adequate for the rough conditions and numbers of people, but I guess I am not the expert in these matters. Luckily no one drowned, though my mom said there were a lot of DNF's and DQ's (people getting assistance or not meeting the cutoffs). This included the oldest man in the field, who is a SE Asian legend. The new transition was extremely exposed to the sun and miserable. They ulitized porta-potties at a public beach, which were honestly the worst I have ever seen at an athletic event anywhere. Hopefully no one will get typhoid. (Yes, that bad.) No flush, no chemicals, no TP, no way to clean hands; excrement and water on floor, most doors did not latch shut. Volunteers accidentally closed front exit to transition after pros, giving AWA's and

  • Comments: After the Sungai Liat Olympic tri I came down with something flu like. It only lasted a couple of days but Yanti had already been sick for over a month and didn't even do the sprint at Sungai Liat. I decided that it might not be a good idea to try doing a half ironman in the searing heat of Vietnam (last year it was 40C to 45C on the run course) coming off an illness and unfit. So we reluctantly cancelled that part of our trip.

  • Comments: Few complaints about the race other than the heat (which is inevitable) and the fact that none of the aid stations appeared to have ice. (Few did last year, either.) Volunteers mostly inexperienced but very helpful. Thanks so much to everyone who threw cold water over my head! The race is well-organized and (this year when I wasn't sick as a dog I actually noticed this) quite a scenic and "fast" course, except for the heat. I would only recommend it for those experienced with racing in tropical conditions. I started in triathlon shortly after moving to Vietnam, and just as it meant a lot to me last year to finish the first IM event here, it meant a lot to me to win my AG here today and qualify for Worlds racing in the country where I do most of my training.

  • Comments: This was the first year and I expected there to be a lot of problems but there were only a few relatively small ones and one potentially dangerous one. I expect these will be dealt with for next year.

  • Comments: The organizers did a great job with very challenging conditions (local government requirements, insane heat) to put on a safe and fun event. There were the inevitable glitches for a first-time event and for Vietnam (rerouting of bike course, no portapotties on run, some aid stations lacked cold water and ice), but overall a great job. Just wish I'd felt better so I could have enjoyed the run more and had a better time!

  • Comments: Just they missed CO2 and any type of shop at Venue, bring all your stuff and a manual pump.
