Comments: A well-run race in a beautiful venue. There were plenty of volunteers and aid stations. The course was lovely - calm ocean swim, scenic rolling bike course, combination road/trail run with a decent amount of shade. The town was very enthusiastic and supportive, which made for an awesome race day vibe.
Comments: Overall a decent race, feeling strong in the swim, really good on the bike, and struggling on the run after four miles (cramping in my quad and hamstring simultaneously, severe lightheadedness). I know it is a gift to compete at all after my minuscus surgery, hamstring recovery, and piriformis pull leading into the race.
If I had to do this again, I would put more miles into long runs following rides of 20 or more miles and definitely train with more nutrition. I thought I took in enough calories (three gels and Perpetuem on the bike, three gels, water, and Gatorade on the run), but I was still lightheaded.
Thank You, Jesus. I did not think I would be able to race this year, and I am grateful for the opportunity to glorify you by giving this my best. I love you and thank You for the gifts you give, above all my salvation in You. I love because You first loved me!
