  • Comments: My goal was to get under 2:00 hrs and my stretch goal was 1:40 hrs, so in the end, I was happy with 1:47. It was my first Tri, so by definition, everything was a PR, and it should only go up from here. Overall, it was a fun day and I've have already signed up for my second one later this season (Olympic distance). I'll do the Philly Tri again next year, probably sticking with the Sprint distance as a good way to start the season off and to see if I can improve my time significantly or not.

  • Comments: Ive already commented above on the lack of communication - both email and website was pretty sparse. The transition areas were kind of treacherous - it was very steep getting out of the water, most people needed a hand up. It was also very narrow getting onto the bike, and very confusing starting the run. I think most of that could have been avoided with better planning (or better signage). Running out of medals at the end also seemed like a simple thing to avoid. Sad not to get a medal for my very first race.

  • Comments: The course, the volunteers, and everything about organizing the race was top notch. I would do this again. I only had one minor qualm, considering how much the race cost, and the huge sponsors involved, there was ZERO swag/freebies/giveaways. Not even so much as a power-gel in the race bag. You got an event t-shirt and that was it. Even the vendors at the expo were stingy and weren't giving anything away. Heck, there were barely any 'deals' at the expo either. Just retail price stuff. That was kind of dissapointing. The race itself though was top notch.

  • Comments: Let me start by saying I feel terribly for the family of the man who did not make it out of the water. That is very very sad. Before having heard that news, I was on a personal high, as this was my best triathlon performance yet. I took over 5 and a half minutes off my time from last year, which included less time in every part of the event! I even shaved 12 seconds off the swim, despite it being too warm to wear a wetsuit. The biggest gains were in the bike and run. I had a great morning out there.

  • Comments: a little issue with my wave assignment, but other than that, this is one of the best run races around. it's a sprint/oly put on with the organization and attention to detail of a major race. great course, good post race food, etc.

  • Comments: What a differnce a couple of weeks makes. After a tough day at Eagleman I was hoping to redeem myself. This was the third year in a row that I've done this race with extended family and we always have a great time. I'm not sure you can find a better race for beginners! Finished 44/81 in AG, solid MOP. For someone who has always been BOP, I couldn't be happier. Got to meet Newbz and said hi to Silver Bullet as I ran by in T2. It was a great day!

  • Comments: As noted earlier, this was my first road triathlon, and only second overall. This was originally planned as a "warm up" to Xterra Dirty Grizzly in August, which it was, however my results were better in this course. Speaks to my MTB skills at the time. This could also be called my "couch to sprint" race, since I had been inactive the last 10+ years, and started swimming only 6 months earlier. On this race day, I had lost about 30 lbs since January 2010. So looking back, 24th of 82 in my age group, on a mountain bike, wasn't bad.

  • Comments: First triathlon was a success. Swimming leaves the most be to desired though. Believe that I got sick from bacteria in river which led to diagnosis of mesenteric lymphadenitis a week later.
