Welcome to Adventure Racing! The Greenhorn AR was created to offer competitors a gateway into the sport of adventure racing. This 2-4 hour sprint adventure race was designed with the beginner in mind. While there is significant challenge built into the event, the navigation will keep racers on the established trails, the mountain biking will be on non-technical fire roads and pavement, and the paddling will take place on a lake.

One of the interesting elements of this race is the course format. At check-in, each team will receive a race passport, a map with 5-10 marked checkpoints, and a race plan form. Teams may reach the checkpoints in any order and by any means of travel (foot, bike, paddle-where appropriate). Teams must develop and submit their race plan form before the competition begins. This plan must include the means of travel and the order in which the checkpoints will be found. This twist offers a fun yet highly achievable challenge to the novice adventure racer.

Operated by the National Park Service, with 15,000 acres, 37 miles of trails, and 21 miles of fire roads and pavement, Prince William Forest Park has the perfect combination of trails, waterways, and amenities for an introductory level adventure race. With its stunning terrain and remote feel, Prince William Forest Park is a hidden gem located just 30 minutes south of Washington DC.
