In this second part, AJ will show you how your training pace and heart rate training zones are setup from the results of your lactate threshold test.

Filmed at: Boulder Center for Sports Medicine
Analysis by: Neal Henderson

In part one, AJ did a lactate and VO2 Max test on a treadmill.  In this second part, a lactate profile is generated from which one will get your training heart-rate zones and your pace zones to then start a training plan from.

  • Discussion of your lactate curve
  • The lactate threshold point
  • Lactate and heart-rate curve
  • How different should the run and bike lactate threshold points be?
  • Training zones derived from the lactate threshold point and a discussion of the zones.
  • Discussion of VO2 Max and what factors contribute to it (genetics, fitness)
  • Peak lactate, peak heart rate and what it means
  • Comparison of two lactate threshold tests nine months apart
Don't have the money for a lab test?  You can also perform your own lactate threshold field test to determine your training zones.
