Beginner Triathlete Training Plans: How Custom is Custom?

Free Training Plans


Free membership gives users access to the forum to ask questions, and to our selection of free training plans, which can be printed out. Only paid members can add the training plans to their online training log at BeginnerTriathlete. The free plans are safe and effective, but lack the utility of the Bronze and Silver membership, and lack the detail available with a Gold membership.


Free Training Plans do include:



  1. Access to a number of pre-made "stock" training plans for various triathlon race distances

  2. The ability to print the plan and refer to it during your season

  3. Use of the Custom Training Plan creator for sprint and Olympic distances


Bronze and Silver Training Plans


Our paid members have access to many features that make using our training plans more convenient. Once you have signed up as a Performance Member (bronze, silver or gold) you'll be able to do the following:



  1. Access additional pre-made "stock" training plans. For Silver members, access to workout details such as heart rate zone recommendations, interval workouts, etc.

  2. Import these plans into your training log on BeginnerTriathlete.com.

  3. Move workouts to different days using the Planned Training Calendar

  4. Compare your actual training minutes and miles to what your plan recommends

  5. Upload workout detail from your watch or other training device without typing in the information

  6. Have workouts emailed to you or sent to your Outlook or Google calendar

  7. Use of the Custom Training Plan creator for sprint and Olympic distances.


Gold Training Plans


Our Gold members have all of the features of the other levels, plus:



  1. The ability to create Custom Training Plans for Half-Iron and Iron-distance races

  2. Access to workout details such as heart rate zone recommendations, interval workouts, etc. in stock and custom plans


Our custom training plan creator allows you to customize the start date and race day (or other end day), the training volume and pace, and the days of the week for various workouts.

Our training plans do not use artificial intelligence, nor do they adjust future recommended training based on the training you've actually logged.

The plans have been developed by a USAT Level III Triathlon Coach.
