For most athletes the physical training it takes to complete a long distance event is usually the hardest part. What most athletes forget to realize is that all the training in the world will go down the toilet if the pacing or the nutrition plan isn't executed properly. One exercise I have my athletes perform is having them write a race plan for their nutrition starting two days before the big event right through to the recovery. This involves going over nutrition step by step and also includes their heart rate at certain points in the race. As many athletes have learned the hard way, nutrition and race day pacing go hand in hand. In this article we'll touch on how to finish off your last week of training with a solid nutrition plan to give you the best chance for success on race day.
