"I also own the Forerunner 405. The touch bezel was a pretty cool idea until you had to use it with wet fingers. I was tired of switching watches so I broke down and decided to get the 310xt. I'm loving it so far. Now, I can use one watch for everything. This is a good tool for the modern triathlete. As of 2/2011---Things were going great until the watch fell out of my gym bag and the display cracked. Beware that this damage IS NOT COVERED under warranty and it will cost $100 for a replacement!!!"emzman

Ease of installation

Had to update driver for ANT since it was set up for 405. After that everything good to go.

Takes a little time getting used to the buttons, but after tinkering around, very easy to use.

Quality of Construction

Supposed to be water-proof. After a few swims, still going good. The screen is glass and breaks easily!

I have medium-sized wrists so it fits perfect. If you have large wrists, might want to switch the bands.

Not as big and clunky as the 205 or 305.

Got the package with HR strap, normally $399, but thanks with my connection, got it for $340. As of 2/2011, the HR strap stopped working and the screen cracked!!!

A cracked screen is not covered under warranty and will cost $100 for a refurbished watch.

Performance

HR pretty accurate. Satellites get picked up within 30 secs. Not really sure how accurate calories are.

Strengths

IT'S WATERPROOF!!! The 4 screen feature is great. And of course the GPS capability is also nice. Also, the vibrate mode is great...can use it to alert you about heart rate and also for laps.

Weakness

Not accurate when using GPS while swimming. (Don't really care though). As of 2/2011---The watch fell out of my gym bag about 2 feet, and cracked.
