  • Comments: It was a great race! They definitely made us ALL feel very special, and it was like no other race I have done before. I wish the drafting on the bike wasn't such a big part of this race, but that should all change with the race being moved to Vegas. I have trained hard for this race and all the hard work definitely paid off. I have been working with coach Jorge (JorgeM) from PBM Coaching for 4 months now and I know this is just the beginning. Next year will be a fun one!!! Buckle up! :)

  • Comments: With the recent hits to their image, I think WTC really set out to shine at this event and it showed. It was a first-class event from start to finish. The hosted dinners were great (albeit pretty far away from the Athletes' Village) and the overall organization was very professional. The only negative I can think of was the bike course and obvious packs of drafting riders. I only saw one motorcycle official "officiate" and he just yelled at a pack that was passing me to "loosen it up."

  • Comments: The Clearwater experience overall was pretty cool. Felt really special to be there and they really go all out and make it more like an ironman. The pre race dinner was one of the best I've had and when you check your bike in, you have a personal escort that takes you to your rack with your name on it! pretty cool. felt super special for that!

  • Comments: The race was one of the best run races I've ever been to. The volunteer support was amazing and the event organization was great. Post race food was ok but no beer so we headed down to one of the local restaurants and took care of that :) My goal for this race was sub 4:30 and was really hoping for 4:22-4:25 range so when I saw 4:18:00 I was thrilled and couldn't have asked for a better race. Was very glad to have my wonderful wife and family there cheering me on and supporting me through the years of training that have led up to this race. Hope to make it out to Vegas in the upcoming years, although I think I'll let them work out any kinks this coming year and try to race it the following.

  • Comments: Not much to comment on. As I said I'm happy with my performance, and although my placing wasn't all that great I can say unequivocally that I am not a cheater. I raced to the best of my ability. My average HR for the entire race was 164. I've never pushed myself that hard in a 70.3. 2009 is done. I've got a couple weeks unstructured and then on to base building for Ironman St. George.

  • Comments: I'm really glad that I had the chance to do this race. I knew that I wouldn't be competitive within my age group, but I just wanted to opportunity to say that I did the race. Even if I qualified again, I'm not sure if I'd come back to Clearwater to race. The drafting does make it a joke if you're looking to place. I never realized how difficult it was to extend my racing season by three months. Post-race I realized I was happy to have time off to take a break, recover and plan for next year.

  • Comments: I was disappointed, but it was a great experience. I saw a level of talent that I have never seen before. I still had a great time and it was a good experience. Best thing was my friends did great. there were three of us from Indy, one won our age group with a 4:07 and the other got 13th in our age group with a 4:17. Those guys are amazing and have worked very hard at this for a number of years. they really deserved a good performance. For me, I have a lot to learn but I was really glad for them. Maybe some day I'll go back, but boy it is tough to stay motivated that late into the fall. Hey, I now have a HIM PR to shoot at!

  • Comments: I thought this was an awesome race. Volunteers were great, the atmosphere was cool and the location was fun. Lots of people have complained about the drafting, and I did think it was annoying, but it didn't affect me as much since I was hanging in the BOP. Also, they were out of small and medium race shirts at packet pickup- annoying, but hey- they let you lots more money on other cool race memorabilia!

  • Comments: What a great weekend! Getting away to sunny Florida for a few days, seeing triathlon legends race like Andy Potts and the Hoyts family, and setting a new PR on top of it! AWESOME :)

  • Comments: I had an awesome time down in Florida- both hanging out with my parents and making new friends. However, I will not do this race again. I have now raced 2 years in a row, and nothing improved over last year. People come to this race to cheat and set a ridiculous PR. You can ride clean if you chose, but hardly anyone else does- they just don't want to. The race organization is top-notch, but unless the officials actually crack down, or people show up who don't want to cheat, then it is just not worth my money and my energy to try to be competitive at this race. It was worth doing the first time I went, but this year's race left a bad taste in my mouth.

  • Comments: WTC put's on a great Championship Race. The organization, multitudes of volunteers, and athlete support are top notch. I think anyone who avoids doing this race due to the drafting issues are making a mistake. It is great event overall and shouldn't be skipped. You know what you are getting into before the start, so do your best and have fun. Having said that, this race is no Kona. Koan has a much bigger feel of excitement and hype surrounding it. I am very happy to have raced here and to have had a positive result, but I don't know when I might come back, I just want to go back to Hawaii in 2010.

  • Comments: Just a couple of things overall. First for those that have read my race reports this season, Thank You. It makes me perform better and observe things so that I can put them in here. I am thinking about you as I'm on the course. You have gotten me through some tough times not only in a race, but in training as well. It might sound dumb, but I know your watching me and that motivates me. In the end, it comes down the the Athlete vs the course. That is a fact. But what often does not get pointed out is the people that helped to get you there. The IronSherpa that told you to suck it up and finish that last mile repeat, that carried your bag to transition so that you would have those extra 5 calories to use on the course and 10,000 other things they do to make your life a bit easier on race day. And I would like to personally Thank Brett Daniels (Rocket_Man) for coaching me the last half of this season. He said that he could not take credit for my last 3 min PR at Steelhead.

  • Comments: What an amazing experience. I would certainly place it right up there as the best sporting event that I have participated. It was great to race with so many incredible, fit, elite athletes from all over the world. The five coolest things that happend to me while I was there: 1. Run into Dan A. at the swim practice. What a great guy and amazing athlete. 2. Thursday dinner with Jorge, Dan, Jorge's friend and my family. It was cold as hell, the food was colder and they couldn't fill the coffee fast enough, but dinner with new friends is always cool. 3. Hug from Chrissie Wellington at the finish line. She is a hottie in person. 4. A family stopped me on the street in Clearwater and asked if I was doing the race. When I said yes they were awestruck as they were volunteering and never met a racer before. They had me take pictures with their daughter. And they talked about getting into running and biking. Sometimes our commitment to our sport inspires others to do the same and that

  • Comments: This was amazing! People can say whatever they want about world championships and drafting, but I wil always remember the day I competed in a world championship triathlon. And I will be very proud of my accomplishment when I tell people I competed in a world championship. The logistics behind a race like this amazes me. The volunteers were fantastic and this was without a doubt the best event I have EVER participated in. If I could do it again next year I would, but next year I'll be doing IMFL instead.

  • Comments: The race was put on perfectly. There were so many people there from all over the world, and so many world class athletes- it was unreal. The volunteers knew everything you asked them, and if they didn't have an answer, they wouldn't stop hunting someone down until your question was answered. They personally escorted you and your bike to the rack, and after giving them your bags, they made sure you knew exactly how the race was going to look. It was incredible! The course is super fast, and so I guess drafting is inevietable, but from my perspective, it seemed like if you didn't want to draft, you could find a way out of it, most of the time. The course marshals were doing all they could, and I saw people in the penalty tent and people getting penalties. I hope they keep the excitement of a championship race for the 70.3 distance alive and this event continues to live up to expectations. What a great weekend!

  • Comments: WOW... What can I say about the World Chamionships" I was lucky to be there and intimidated by the talent everywhere. This race was like nothing I'd ever seen before. Evey Athlete was elite. No one walking the run course. No one slow. Holy Crapola. I got a taste of "The Show"... A HUGE Congrats to "The Borinator" for spanking the course today with a PR of 4h 52m and to SBNM for breaking the 6 hour time barrier with a PR of 5h 53m. These 2 have been close to me this entire year and I have been lucky that they a=have included me in their lives. I truly am humbled to have participated in this event BUT... more than that, and more than whatever inspiration a race of this caliber proffers, there is ONE differece that I don't think any of those elites had... The Friends I have... In NO particular order, the following friends are the reason I made it to the starting line and across the finish line. I am privileged to be surrounded by these people everyday of my life and remain

  • Comments: Let's put the bike issues aside for now. Overall I think they did a great job with this event. This was much more than a race. It all started Thursday with the expo, packet pick-up, sponsored swim (Gatorade), and the welcome banquet with plenty of really good food and a big production set up on the beach. Friday was mellow with another swim, the athlete meeting, and bike & gear check-in. Saturday was the race and the awards banquet back on the beach...another great meal and a very nice way to end the weekend. This whole event took a huge amount of planning and coordination...so much beyond setting up a race course and aid stations. They had tons of volunteers everywhere and everything went very smooth as far as I could tell. Folks who have been to Kona siad this was basically an exact copy of how that is run. Now the ride...Tour de Clearwater. I'm not saying this was entirely the fault of the RD but I sure hope they learned some lessons and plan to make some adjustments for
