  • Comments: This was SBR's first race, and it went OK. A shame about the swim, but there's nothing anyone could do about that.

  • Comments: Only gets a 4 because it was a small race so none of the hoopla of a big race. Event not on time due to thunder delay which led to eventual swim cancellation. (The USAT official asked for "experienced" racers to come and discuss what to do/preferences when it was clear that the swim wouldn't happen. I presume a short run was used so as not to favor runners but just to get the event going.) I would classify this as a small local tri - I think it's the first time these guys have organized a race, field size was small which actually was nice as it meant more room in the TA and less general waiting and thrashing around (total of 126 racers). Well organized. They also have four races here this summer over the same bike and swim course with differing length runs - race #3 is on the same course as this one so it's nice to be able to race it again so soon and look for improvements - get to implement the "I should've done this" straight away. I would imagine that water temps will preclude wetsuits

  • Comments: Obviously the swim was a bummer, but that had nothing to do with the race organizers. The State park would not allow it with thunder. Otherwise, with only 130 people, it was a manageable size and well run. Everyone was friendly, the course was well marked and there were people stationed everywhere necessary.

  • Comments: The race volunteers were very helpful and friendly, however I wasn't thrilled with the way it was run. First off, the distances of the races in this series have changed at least twice since I signed up. The distances are a huge factor in the races I sign up for. I don't think I would have signed up for a 16 mile bike because I know I only train 12. Secondly, while there was thunder in the distance, I don't think they needed to cancel the swim entirely - especially since they told us that if it thundered while we were already in the lake, they'd let us keep swimming. And the more I think about it, the more angry I am about the awards ceremony. That's really rude, to begin before everyone has finished! I was not THAT far behind the next-to-last finisher. And the race director had been with me and knew I was running it, not strolling through the woods. I have never been to a race where they didn't wait until everyone was finished to present the awards. If they were running behind, it was because
