  • Comments: I would have given this race a 5, except for the loop in the middle of the bike course. They didn't have any choice because the road was cut off further out from hurricane damage, but the loop seemed to cause problems with the race results. Turns out that some people skipped the loop, and they had to be eliminated before the results could be announced (and that took a very long time!). I'm still not sure if they got it right or not. During the awards ceremony they gave me second place, but now the official results show me in third place. Don't know if someone above me skipped the loop or not. But overall this was a fun race!

  • Comments: Maybe my feeling on the race are a bit negative because of my poor performance but I have a couple complaints. The bike course was damaged by hurricane dennis in 2005 and they can't help that, but they continue to advertise the bike as 18 miles. $85 for a mini sprint is out of line and they should disclose the bike distance correctly. The other issue is that the bike course is not really safe for the number of people racing. I don't think they can fix that even if the road gets extended. The run course was also long. That said, the post race party is great, plenty of beer and food, volunteers were awesome, they gave away a nice bike and they have nice prizes. Its a short drive and the locals are great, I wish they could find a way to improve the bike course.

  • Comments: The race was good. I think it has been better in the past (this coming from others who have done this race many times -ie my husband etc), but just happy to be able to race with hurricanes etc. We were happy for the wonderful weather. Weather was amazing. Couldn't ask for a more beautiful day. Proud to call myself a triathlete now, if only for a spring distance. Next is the 1/2 Ironman

  • Comments: Great after race party with free beer, red beans and rice, and snacks. The prizes were great as well. I get a little bitter that the elites get all the cool stuff (they are already faster than us AND they get money and prizes haha) They handed out these really neat hard-carved tiki gods to the top people, I really wanted one lol. Maybe some day!

  • Comments: We really wanted to race and up until Wednesday, it looked like they would be able to have it. This race is on Pensacola Beach and the area is still recovering from Hurricane Ivan last year. This is normally a big race, very nice awards, and a great post race party. The area is had very rough surf and the sand blew over the road that would have been the bike path, so they changed it to a 5K on Thursday. They still had a great party and gave away 2 bikes and lots of prizes.
