  • Comments: Savageman doesn't disappoint - it's an epic event with amazing support from the organizers, volunteers, spectators, and fellow participants. Despite my hopes coming into the weekend, I left without a brick, again - maybe next year. But as I said to my sister Sunday night, lots of people get bricks. It's quite likely that I'm the only knucklehead to take on America's hardest triathlon, all 6700 feet of climbing, on a 35lb comfort bike with fat knobby tires, and still cross the finish line with 30 minutes to spare. I love this race, I hope it make it back next year to try it again.

  • Comments: This course chewed me up and spit me out. I'm already looking forward to coming back. I'm just not sure when. Kyle Yost has enlightened the triathlete world about the magnificient cycling in the Appalachian Mts and for that I am grateful. Deep Creek is stunningly beautiful and quite savage!

  • Comments: I am really happy with the way this race turned out for me. Being it's only my 3rd triathlon ever(1 sprint, 1 other half iron, and this half iron) - I'm overjoyed with how things went. I can see why this was rated the best triathlon last year by Triathlete magazine. It's beautiful yet brutal. Like a sign said on the way up savage mountain - "They don't call this race - Wussyman!" The volunteers were outstanding and can't be thanked enough! I do think I've seen enough alpaca's though for a while.

  • Comments: Shared the house with Dan, Ryan (who won his age group and earned 10th in KOM), Aaron and Dale Toce (dtoce from BT) as well as Dale's son Michael. It was fun to meet up with and swap stories with everyone. I cooked pre-race dinner and I think the day worked out well for everyone. I beat my 2012 Savageman PR by more than 9 minutes (5:57:13). I went into the race thinking I would participate and enjoy the scenery. I was pretty sure the run would be ugly because my legs felt so trashed. As it turned out, my ride was pretty good but the climbing (the most important feature of this course) was off. And, as it turned out, my run was way better than expected. I never really felt cooked on the run although I did experience some significant pains in the hamstrings.

  • Comments: I know I cried lick a little bitch during this race report, but it was a bucket list race and rated the hardest triathlon in North America. If you like pain and suffering and you love to climb mountains not hills. This is your race. great support and the town and area is wonderful. I would do it again some day, but only after I suppress the memory that I ever did this race. Also goal reached. I got my brick and finished. Check.

  • Comments: Kyle has put together one hell of a race experience. This race course is so incredibly difficult but so rewarding. The organization is top notch and the vibe is awesome. If you love cycling or love difficult courses, you really need to give this a try.
