  • Comments: For me, coming off the NJ State Tri as my first race ever, this race was a real wake up call -- here's what a tough course feels like. I don't think it was too tough, I was not as trained as I should have been and I knew that going in. Frankly, a good argument was made that I shouldn't have even gone out, given the muscle strain and impact on my training, but I accepted the fact that I might have to drop out. In the end, my back was absolutely FINE, which was great! It was just a lack of conditioning plus the calf cramp that really hit my time. I consider this race to have been a huge success for me -- that it was a tough course, that I put myself together and got there and that despite the known challenges and limitations, I went out and did it, and although at times I felt sure that I was absolutely dead last, came in pretty decently. My transitions were each a full minute faster than last time, I learned more about starting and pacing and experienced firsthand the importance of

  • Comments: This was a fantastic race. Very well organized (except see below). Beautiful course, lots of volunteers. I would DEFINITELY do this race again, if they run it. I think it all started with the State Park Police trying to lead all of the marine support units out of the swimming area to leave. The road from the boat ramp also happened to be the finishing chute, so there really wasn't anywhere to go. About 2hr into the race, a procession of SUV's, led by the park ranger started driving out through the finishing cute. Mind you, there was an Oly at the same time, and this was a long sprint, so 2-hr was very heavy with finishers. Well, as the park officer was driving up, she started admonishing runners over her PA "runners STAY INSIDE THE CONES". Everyone (there were hundreds of spectators and racers around) was incredulous. SHE was IN THE FINSH CHUTE. Finally, the park officer and a few followers got through between finishers and they were able to stop about half of the
