  • Comments: San Diego is absolutely beautiful, and if you haven't been, I'd heavily recommend it. The race was well supported, and the crowd really seemed to get into it. One thing that really made me laugh: There was an add for a mattress store on the Rock station that was encouraging the runners to have a comfy mattress to come home to after than run all 22.6 miles. Seriously, if you're going to try to advertise to runners, at least get the distance right. I've run 3/7 of the Elite races this year, and I'm registered for the other 4, so I'm well on my way to getting the RockStar and Super 6 medals! This will probably be my last marathon until San Antonio in Nov (or possibly Baltimore again in Oct), so I should have time to train well in order to meet my 3:30 goal by the fall. :-)

  • Comments: This marathon endeavor really started out as a “favor” to Jen. I know that running a marathon has always been a dream for her and it really wasn’t for me, I didn’t think I was built to run a marathon and the training really intimidated me beyond belief. Throughout the training and the race I began to see the draw towards the magical 26.2 distance. The training really presses you push your body to and beyond its limits and by the time you are ready the body is able to run for distances previously not thought of. Then during the race you are forced mentally push through obstacles and challenges that seem insurmountable, but by then end of the race Jen’s dream of running a marathon had been fully transferred onto me and I couldn’t have been more proud to have finished

  • Comments: I met Frank Shorter, Bart Yasso, and Dean Karnazes at the expo!! I had fun up 'till mile 13 or so, but the FE with the RW people, Tanya and Faeron was awesome!!! While waiting for my mom to come in, the announcer announced at aound the 5:30 range, that a elite woman was about to cross the finish line, and something went terribly wrong. My race was bad, but it was humbly, it could have been MUCH worse.

  • Comments: The race was really really well organized. There were lots of water stations and med stations, plus tables with salt packets, and the people giving out the orange slices. Tons of volunteers who were all great, most (if not all) of the water stations were themed. The bands and all the cheer groups were fun. Lot of spectators, people with hoses keeping you cool. I liked the gear check at the beginning, because I could wear a sweater in the morning and they drove it to the finish line so I could get my stuff at the end. Should have paid more attention to the rolling hills on the course map, but I just noticed the bigger hill near the beginning and wrote off the rest as flat (which it mostly was).

  • Comments: Had a free beer coming to me after the race, but the line was wayyyy long so decided to head out after a couple hours of walking around and resting in the grass in the sun and get some margaritas. So many people there...I don't know how families ever found their racers! Super fun race and would do it again in a heartbeat. Hope I can get this chip issue resolved quickly!
