  • Comments: One last word about Setup Events and the Beach2Battleship triathlon. This was my first Iron distance event, but certainly not my first triathlon. To date, this is the best run event that I've seen with excellent support from the company that runs it and the most fantastic set of volunteers I've ever had the pleasure of coming across. There were two volunteers for every three athletes and it showed. I would highly recommend this race for anyone looking to do their first full or half-Ironman event and would also urge anyone interested in their other venues (Setup presents approximately 150 events per year) to consider doing those as well.

  • Comments: Swore I would never do another iron distance race after this one, but that is the same thing I said after doing IMLP back in July. Could hardly walk after the race and that was the case until Tuesday, but now I am feeling much better. Could kick myself for not going at least 8:01 faster.

  • Comments: I will say that I am more proud of this race than my first IM. When you get hit in the mouth and knocked down you can either get up and fight or call it a day. Honestly, I had always thought I would call it a day if something like that happened to me. I was thrilled that I had the fight in me to continue. I believe I learned lessons from this race that I will take with me throughout my life and they will make me a better person.

  • Comments: I know this is only the second year of the race, but I was very disappointed by the spectator support. There was suppose to be a competition between the aide stations for most spirited but that wasn't really evident. The race course was not well lit. However I can't speak to the finish or the bike course. My overall impression was this wasn't any different than any other Setup olympic or half distance race. I thought their only full would have more hype. I recorded my personal story not as a plea for pitty, but I hope as an inspiration to others. Choosing to quit was the hardest thing I have ever done but now that I've had time to look back it was the best thing that could have happened to me. I've learned so much about myself, both mentally and physically, about what and Ironman distance takes, and how much I want IMCA 2011. I am more focused and determined than ever and I will NEVER experience this again. COURAGE ISN'T ALWAYS A LION'S ROAR. SOMETIMES IT IS THE HEART AT THE

  • Comments: Overall I loved this event as a racer but there are still issues that need to be worked on. Having time splits with T1 and the bike put together seems like a major snafu, not to mention running out of coke on the run. The post race food wasn't very good either. I guess the waits were better then in 2008, but there were a ton of folks walking across the bridge from the HIM as the waits must have been kinda of bad. We didn't want to get stuck waiting on got my stuff and took the trolley back. I would've liked to hang out and root some folks on, but with our rental house along the run course knew we could do it from there and eat some real food. I was impressed that they seemed to do a good job of moving bags and the overall organization of the race. For spectators its not all that easy to get around with the boats and trolleys. The race photos shown below were of poor quality and I feel like I was ripped off. Don't bother with them and have a friend or loved one get some

  • Comments: I really enjoyed this race. No only because it was my first IM, but the setup was a bit different which mixed it up. The run on Front Street was tough because the road was not even, so you really had to watch your step. Other than that, I give it two thumbs up. I WILL be back, and try to break this time.

  • Comments: Race was well organized and aid stations had plenty of everything. I would recommend this race to anyone especially as a first ironman length or attempt at a PR.

  • Comments: I loved the fast course, organization, the point to point, and the racers. Hated going down those steep little hills in downtown. Great race!

  • Comments: This is a fast course and a great race to PR. The race is well organized and with plenty of volunteers. I would love to race B2B again.

  • Comments: Logistically, this is a tough race - especially for the spectators. With that in mind, I think the organization was good. I would recommend the race, and I highly recommend Wrightsville Beach and the Holiday Inn Sunspree. My only real complaints with this race were the Heed -- I couldn't get it down, and the run course needed a few more light towers in the park section. There were some places where it was too dark to see where we were running. The volunteers were awesome. And the spectators gave me some encouragement when I needed it.

  • Comments: The best part of training for an IM is that you learn some things about your capabilities and how far you can push them and how to push them. The worst thing is that you do not get to do nearly as much social riding. I have always been the guy that hung back whenever there was a beginner rider in the group because I have that "caretaker" kind of personality and want to promote the sport. It was too difficult for me to leave those people to fend for themselves during group rides so I just started riding by myself most of the time. While training gave me a lot of self satisfaction, it also took a lot of fun out working out by riding alone and like the time I needed a cane to walk on a Sunday because of a back injury from heavy lifting and swimming Tuesday and riding Wednesday because I was already behind on training due to back issues the previous couple of months. ... and the time I ran sixteen miles with a fever at 11:00 at night trying to get my running back on track and went home

  • Comments: The race was a really well run event. At first I was a little worried about the duel transitions and the newness of the race but they had it all squared away. If you are considering this as your first full distance event you will not find a better place to start. I think they said they had a 1:1 ratio of volunteers to participants and every aid station was on the ball. At the bike special needs I didn’t even ask for my bag and they ran it over to me before I got off the bike to stretch a little. The swim is easy, the bike is fast, and the run is very well supported. During the run the spectators are on the riverfront so you see them for 2 miles four times throughout the run. Yeah 1 mile of the run was not lit well but I am sure they will make it better next year and if you are worried about it finish before the sun goes down or bring your own light. One of the best things: After the race I went to get my bike and ALL of my gear was sitting there waiting for me. The volunteers had found

  • Comments: This was my second IM this year. I cut my swims down to 2 per week and blew off several workouts. Despite that my bike was about 20 minutes faster than KY. My run was just three minutes slower, though I felt much slower. I'm glad I did this one but will have to think long and hard about 2 IM races in one year again. I have to say thank you again to Jungle Jenn, who drove me down to NC and back again. Also to Amy and her husband Andy who drove me all over the race venue and Wilmington. My Cousin Travis gave up an entire weekend to come support me, thank you Travis. You were really good to me out there. I can't believe how fortunate I am to have family and friends like these people. I think Travis got the bug. He's talking about a HIM next year. Travis, you do it and I'll be there to jockstrap you. Just name the race. Lastly I want to thank my wife, Alice. I floated the idea of an Ironman 2 years ago. She said she'd be supportive. And boy, has she been. After KY I said that there were

  • Comments: Well this was my first full so I don't have any others to compare it to BUT Set-Up did a great job and the community seems very supportive of all the disruption. I really can't complain at all about anything since this race brought to an end my first full season of tri (last year I did a sprint in Oct). I made up my mind one year ago that I was going to do this race and well it lived up to everything I wanted. It was a great weekend---the weather was great, the race was organized, nice course. And most importantly I got to meet a FANTASTIC group of BTers!!! A bunch of us went for a swim on Fri (and bike) and then dinner that night. It was great to know some faces out there on the course and have friendly, supportive people to talk to after---thanks to ALL of you for being so friendly and encouraging!!!

  • Comments: If I could change a couple things, It'd be to be more spectator friendly, and have better bling. What great weather, great people and a great race, If I had to recommend, I'd say definitely come to this place! Sadly I got no official times for swim or for bike, I should've cheated on the Felt and the hike, I could've done better that way, But all in all I was very happy with my day.
