  • Comments: This is a great race and being close to home, if I ever decide to do another IM I would most certainly come back to this one. I did not mean to be negative about the volunteers in the transition tents, I'm sure they would have helped if I had ASKED. Overall there were lots of volunteers and the ones at the aid stations both on the bike and run were awesome. I have now done 3 IMs. Each one had it's very own distinct personality. The first was 97 degrees, the second had cold water and I was hypothermic after the swim and held in medical, the third I was undertrained and had to deal with the wind. Oddly my times for the three events are: 14:02, 14:04, and 14:06. Guess I'm consistent. I enjoyed this race much much more than I ever expected that I would. I attribute that entirely to the fact that I went into it so relaxed. I am truely at the point in my career where I don't need to be 'fast' any more. I've been there (kind of) and just don't need it anymore. I'm having way too much

  • Comments: Outstanding organization. Logistics of this point-to-point race could not have been handled better. My biggest suggestion would be to hand out transition bags of thicker plastic-which is a pretty minor nitpick! Check-in, Expo, pre-race dinner, athlete briefing, and post-race cruise were all well-done. Commemorative wood plaque I bought from (non-profit) Kids Making It was great souvenir (made from actual teak decking from USS North Carolina!!). I missed my dream goal of sub-13hr. Frustrated thinking I could have done better without a couple bad breaks, but satisfied I completed an ironman in respectable mid-pack time. This body's come a long way since my 1st sprint tri 3 yrs ago.

  • Comments: Great race overall. I was very worried about how we would get all of our bags during and after the race, but the volunteers did a great job helping us.

  • Comments: I had a great day on a great course. No point in whining about the weather. Volunteers were awesome. I highly recommend this race. We stayed 3 nights at Hilton downtown, which was fine and very convenient. I recommend going a few days earlier and staying at the beach.

  • Comments: Again, fourth time at B2B, and I've watched race management overcome the greater than usual number of details that go into a point-point event. Every year there are more volunteers, there's better traffic management, better organization of things like the handling of transition and special needs bags..I could go on. I think the city accepts and welcomes the event and the racers and Wilmington really is a pretty cool place to have a race. The race is also the right time of year for people like me who've decided no more racing in the heat. I plan to come back again next year but it might be for the half.

  • Comments: My two complaints had to do with the train, but I am sure SETUP contacted them, and was told the trains would not be running. I blame the trains company for this, not the race organization. My second complaint is that there was nobody checking bib numbers or bracelets on Sunday during bike pickup. I could have gone in there and picked out any bike I wanted, and nobody would have even known if I was a race participant or not.

  • Comments: Set Up Events does a great job with this race. Considering the logistical nightmare of this race, there are very few changes that I would consider making. Over a thousand volunteers, great support from the city, etc.

  • Comments: Really happy about this race. My top priority for this race was to give myself the confidence of knowing I can do a sub 10hr Ironman so that hopefully I can qualify for Kona next year. The swim is abnormally fast with the current and the bike is super flat, but with such a heavy headwind, this was a very legitimate course.

  • Comments: I actually shed a few tears after I crossed the line, thinking of what I had just done. In June of 2010 I finished my first sprint triathlon, and about 18 months later I finished an IM in under 10:00. I know I'm capable of going faster, but I'm also looking forward to some rest this off-season, and spending more time with Katie, as my training has taken away a lot of time. I don't have any solid triathlon plans for next season, but I'm happy with what I accomplished in my second year of racing.

  • Comments: The Setup Events folks really know how to put on a race. This was my third race with them and it was fantastic as always! The volunteers and the spectators were both awesome as well. Great energy at this race!
