  • Comments: My first AG win! OK, it's not exactly the fastest field, but I'm still super excited about it. (They got my time wrong at first and I had to email them (with back-up email from Cynthia -- thank you!) to get it fixed.) Whee! I love this race, crazy swim and all. Shizu and I were talking afterwards about how at this point, we don't necessarily want them to fix the swim. The clusterfuck is part of the appeal! I was a little annoyed that they made the run two miles instead of one this year -- what I love about this race is how ridiculously short it is, and two miles crosses into not *that* short territory, you know? But it's all so beginner-friendly and family-oriented and just silly fun, that I can't really have any serious complaints. Oh, and they have great volunteers -- very nice and helpful and good at keeping the racers on track. I'm pretty sure I thanked every single one of them on the course.

  • Comments: They probably could have used more volunteers, especially at some of the spots on the run or bike where it wasn't immediately clear where to go, but otherwise this was a really fun and well-run race. It's clearly designed for people who have never done a triathlon before and aren't really in shape for one, but there were actually quite a few very serious athletes there, including people decked out in full aero gear on their bikes. There were several people who said they had HIMs lined up for this summer and were using this tri just to get in some transition practice, but I think they were secretly showing off and trying to break the previous year's records. *g* Not that I blame them -- it's fun to just go all out for such a short time. It was neat to watch the near-pros competing alongside all sorts of people you'd never expect to see at a race. The swimwear ranged from trisuits to people in shorts and T-shirts and bikinis. The race director was super nice and everyone was unbelievably
