  • Comments: This is my very favorite ride/tour. The course is challenging but doable, the volunteers are great, and the aid stations and post race party is wonderful.

  • Comments: I got started a little late (6:45 AM) due to parking being very limited. However I felt good, and made good time. Juniper Pass: This was the first pass. I planned on starting off easy, just until I could get warmed up. After about ten minutes I felt pretty good, and began to pick up the pace. I was able to stay in the middle chain ring all the way up Juniper. When I reached the summit, I stopped for a quick couple of minutes to refill my water bottles. The ride down to Idaho springs was a little crowded in some sections, but it was still a lot of fun. Those aero bars are great! The ride from Idaho springs to Georgetown was fairly easy I stopped off in Georgetown for 5 minutes to refuel. Georgetown to Loveland: It was starting to get a little warm out, so I made sure to hydrate about every 5 minutes or so. The I70 portion of the ride was a little sketchy with all the truck traffic heading up to the mountains, this made me a little uneasy when passing other riders.

  • Comments: This just has to be one of the most amazing, beautiful, and challenging ides in America. The scenery can't be beat, and the 10,310' of climbing makes this a serious ride to contend with. The volunteers were wonderful, and there was plenty to eat and drink, although the water at Juniper Pass and in Loveland tasted like dirt again, and mixed with Accelerade it creates a potent cocktail that should only be handled by a Hazmat team.

  • Comments: Holy shamoly, this event was nuts. The course is about as tough as anyone can make a ride in Colorado, and coupling freezing rain on the front third with warm drizzle on the second third makes it both grueling and dangerous. The event was capped at 3500, but I would imagine that several hundred probably had the good sense to sleep in that morning. The first section up Squaw Pass was mobbed, and the descent on the back was extremely treacherous with a downpour of freezing rain. Visibility was shot, brakes were soaked, rain gear wasn't enough (should have worn my wetsuit), and shivvering on a bike is just no fun. I think the descent knocked a large number of the participants out of the event, as the course really thinned out. The Aid Station at Loveland Ski Area looked something like a war zone, and it was set up in a dirt parking lot that was turned to mud. By the time we were over Loveland Pass, I think the majority of riders had come to their senses and found other ways to just
