  • Comments: I love the small town feel of the races in Hiawassee. They are laid back, and everyone that is there to race are really good people. You do not run into any BS attitudes, and they are just a great time. Plus, racing in the mountains around the lake is wonderful. After the race I stretched it out a bit, and woke up Max. The little guy had played himself out. Then I chatted with everyone after that finished, and waited for awards. This would be Max's first podium, and I was pumped that I could take him up for my first 1st OA win. Picture: Max was pleased with his hardware.

  • Comments: We were very disappointed in what we got for our entry fee to this race. It was not a sanctioned race so there were really no rules on the bike course. It was not chip timing. A girl punched in your race number as you went by her. Not sure how accurate that is? Race bags and goodies were good. There were very few volunteers, no post race activities. Post race meal consisted of several bags of McDonald's chicken biscuits and jugs of tap water to serve yourself. The swim start was the worst I have ever seen. They had power boats out in the water making fumes and noise and the race director was yelling at us from a pontoon but none of us could hear him. Someone told me relays went in the last wave, so I waited. There was just 1 min. between waves which was not enough. I passed several folks in the first wave and it got way too crowded on the back side of the island. Overall, I felt like they did not provide much for the entry fees. The fee was comparable to sanctioned and chip

  • Comments: I was one of two clydes so I got a nice little plaque. Also, Renee won her group so she was on cloud nine.

  • Comments: The race was not a huge race, on the small size. I think the bike course gets a bad rap IMO. It was tough, but not that bad. I wish it had been chipped, but that is not a hang up. I really wished I had a wetsuit. A great start for the 2008 season. During the awards, they started with the older groups and worked down. So, when they got to the 25-29 age group and called out the time for third place my wife and I looked at each other. I had beaten the time of third place. Then, they called out second place and that was not me either. OMG, I had taken first. Then, my called my name for 1st place in the 25-29 AG. It was wonderful!!!
