  • Comments: This was my first ironman branded race. It lived up to everything that I heard. The volunteers were awesome. The Marines on Camp Pendelton were unbeliveable. They gave you a big boost as you rode by. The volunteers manning the running aid stations were great as well. They always had a drink or food ready for you. Overall by far the best race I've ever done. I look forward to doing this one again as well as other Ironman evernts.

  • Comments: NA Sports puts on a first class event that all others are measured by. You can never go wrong here. Two gripes that I have with the race are pretty minor. It seems that Gatorade, one of the title sponsors got cheap with the Green Water Bottles and we got plastic throw aways instead. This is a safety issue as what they were handing out tended to not stay in bottle cages. (I saw several close calls) The other gripe was that NA sports did not give out the black Ironman Shoulder Bags this year. I got one from this race last year and also from Lake Placid. (I use the hell out of them) But it was a first class event that I will be back for next year :)

  • Comments: This was a fantastic race. The course is beautiful and definitely scenic with it's ocean views and Cali hill climbs. There were a lot of army volunteers, which added a little something extra to the race. Hazards were well marked, and aid stations were plentiful. This race seems to draw a high calibre of athletes, so the competition is tough which is actually a bonus for me. It makes me work that much harder, and ensures I perform to the best of my ability on race day. I would definitely recommend this race.

  • Comments: Wear sunscreen I used some but didn't get any on my legs or my shoulders and woke up the next day with a pretty bad burn. Apparently permenant marker is an excellent sun block because my left calf has a nice 36 surrounded by sun burn:) Photos: http://www2.snapfish.com/share/p=81311207068124330/l=364217423/g=90...

  • Comments: Still had a bunch of gas in the tank so my overall goals were achieved - nearly finished with the splits I'd hoped for: Goal/actual SWIM - 0:40:00 / 0:37:21 BIKE - 2:35:00 / 2:53:21(missed my bike goal by 0:18:21) RUN - 2:00:00 / 1:59:41 Transitions sucked - no excuse, must practice more... Run fitness is there, just a basket case with the knee and thinking about IM CDA in June... Overall a great time and would love to do it again.

  • Comments: Summer 2008 here I come! This actually turned out to be my best HIM. 2008 - 5:46:33, 2007 - 5:50:41, 2006 - 6:02:33 My run actually pulled the race out for me.

  • Comments: This event was fantastic. I think the massive amount of volunteers working the race with such enthusiasm made such a difference. The swim was sheltered from the surf. The bike course was scenic and challenging. And the run was action packed with spectators and regular beach goers. I felt like a celebrity with everyone shouting my name. I would do this race again! Special thanks to the Inland Inferno Tri Club, the volunteers at the top of the first steep hill on the bike course, the San Diego Tri Club volunteer party, and finally the tall, skinny, short blond-haired woman standing near mile 10 that was shouting all sorts of encouragement and inspiring words while loosing her voice till the bitter end.

  • Comments: Cant wait till next year. I thought before the race that this would make me want to go longer, to do a full iron distance race. Actually it is just the opposite. Not that I would ever rule it out, but I think it really is the perfect distance for me. I dont have a lot of time to train and this is a short enough day to be reasonable. I admire those that do the full IM distance but for me this is going to be my A race for the next few years.

  • Comments: Second time and walking away with my time what it was makes me much happier. A little better organization and sponsorship last year (got nice canvas IM bags, this year just plastic gatorade bags). Being ten pounds less this year helped. Now I need to keep the weight down through the season and try to get to 205-210 for next year.

  • Comments: This race is incredible. The only downsides were a very confusing transition area (before the race), and fewer than advertised aid stations on the bike (there were supposed to be every 10 mi; but I passed through three). P.S. HOT MARINES.

  • Comments: This was my first HIM, and I will always remember this race favorably. I hope to do more HIMs and improve my performance, but I will always think back to how I overcame the training setbacks, injury and health issues just to get the starting line. Finishing was the gravy. I can't begin to express my thanks and gratitude to all the BTers who provided advice and support in the many months leading up to this event.

  • Comments: the layout led to very high congestion. Seemed unorganized, and it was not a very spectator start/finish area. Fun race though, plan on doing it next year.

  • Comments: Excellent race for Lar Dog, and another, PODIUM FINISH...Very proud of the day, and it was even better as Kim, Tony, and Erik, along with Tony's girlfriend Sabra, and our friend Erin from Minnesota came out to cheer on the DOG!
