• Comments: The volunteers were so great! There was a great spaghetti dinner afterwards and we started making friends with some of the other competitors. Nina and Gary raced around my speed and Gary is from Cornelius (his wife works at the University Y) and is also racing IM Louisville next year. Corporal Ed was my partner throughout the weekend. All starts were time trial starts meaning that 2 people entered the water every 3-5 seconds. We were seeded by our best half-ironman times (there were several people there who this weekend was their first triathlon ever!). I was #131 and Ed was #132. It was cool to make friends and then encourage each other out on the course.

• Comments: A very conservative strategy and as a result I was well down on the placings. That kinda sucked, but I was hoping that it would pay off over the rest of the weekend.
