  • Comments: They say your the goal of your first race at the next longer distance should be just to finish. If that's the case, then mission accomplished. However, I could have probably given back 7 or 8 minutes on the bike and finished 25 minutes faster overall, if I had just raced ny plan. That's a bitter pill to swallow and one that will stick in my craw until I race this distance again. On the other hand, I will chalk this up as a very important lesson learned. And at the end of the day, I am very proud of myself for completing an HIM, something I wouldn't have dreamed of being able to do a couple years ago. Oh, and just as a side note, if I had raced my ideal race and finished at my original goal time of 5:45, I would have finished only about 20 places higher in my age group. That's how competitive this field-- and my age group-- was for this race!

  • Comments: Despite the personal issues with my ability to race this course, I still feel it is an awesome event. The volunteers are awesome as usual and it is a well run event. They were running a little low on the food selection for the late arrivals though.

  • Comments: OK race. Of course I've been spoiled with the Ford 70.3 races for my first 2 halfs. Compared to those, this was a let-down. But it was OK. Plenty of aid stations and volunteers. The people of Racine were great with their lawn sprinklers dropping water on the the run course. Ran through probably 20 of them.

  • Comments: The swim start was attrocious. The actual start was not marked--we just waded in to what seemed like an appropriate place. There was no official at the start line, just athletes. The race PA was set up far enough away that we could not hear ANY announcements, only the siren. There was one race official standing on a pier within shouting distance of where we started, but he did not know anything that was going on, did not have a radio, did not know the wave start order. Lots of grumbling going on amongst the athletes. Simple solution: Give him a dry erase board to write down the next wave information, a radio to communicate with the starter, and a bull horn. Not rocket science here, I expect more from an organization like this. After the swim, everything was great. There were well stocked and staffed refreshment stations every 10 miles on the bike, and every mile on the run. Plenty of volunteers and staffers in and around transition. Security in transition was great too, I was

  • Comments: This is a great venue and race. The community really turns out to cheer the racers on. My training buddies that did it last year said the facilities were vastly improved over last year. I would highly recommend this race and will likely go back. It was nice to see David Thompson win a high profile race after just missing out of the money at the LifeTime Fitness race. I entered the Elite Master division but figured my time would have placed 9th out of 86 in the 45-49 AG if you add the other masters to their respective divisions. So, not to disappointed considering the entire week. We headed to Madison Sunday night and then rode the loop of the IM WI bike course on Monday. It is an awesome course and now I can't wait for September 10.

  • Comments: Overll, this is an outstanding event. Very well organized, ran and supported by the community. I would definetly recommend this race to anyone considering doing a HIM that can fit it into their schedule.

  • Comments: Overall, first half done..met goal time of under 6 hrs. But i really need to figure out what i want to do with triathlons. Do i really want to "go long" or is it better for "balance" to stick with olympic distance. Still thinking about that one.

  • Comments: This is an awesome event. Add in the BT dinner that Cindy set up - awesome! I can't imagine having had a different first HIM experience. Even the difficulties on the course were like a right of passage in a way, and therefore - it was perfect. The sunrise that morning, the glorious weather, the at home feeling of swimming in a big lake, corn flowers along the road on the rolling bike course, the hugs and kisses in transition, and the shady spots on the run...I found moment of joy all along the course. Pictures soon!

  • Comments: This is a great race, that just keeps getting better. The changes this year to the park where transition area is made a huge improvement. No more run straight up a hill to start the run. The bike course is awesome. Only a few sections of cruddy road, but it's hard to find 56 miles of pristine road anywhere. The volunteers were great, and there are a lot of people who live along the course that were sitting out and watching and cheering, even way the heck out on the back parts of the bike course. Great community support. I definitely will be back to do this race again next year.

  • Comments: Very well organized, very fun, lots of drink stations, a running route where you could see your friends SEVERAL times... it was great. I'm generally happy with my performance, and the run was a Half Marathon PR. Not fast, but at least I'm not getting slower. Great to see Cindy and Mark and Chris and his Dad and I think Autumn yelled WHIZZZZZZZZZZZZ while we were running past each other! A long day, but FUN.

  • Comments: Really nice race. Very well organised on race day, tons of volunteers and quality energy foods (hammer gel). Registration took forever, not enough help there. Favorite moment: Seeing the lady crying on the shoulder of her daughter/friend as I heard her friend saying "you did it." She was so overcome with emotion after finishing. It was great to have seen someone who was so emotional with what she had accomplished.

  • Comments: Overall this was a good race. It went by very fast! My family followed me around the course cheering me on which was great! Wish I would have stuck around after the race to enjoy the moment but I was hot and wanted to get to AC. 1073 finished the race an additional 154 started but DNF (312 no start)

  • Comments: This race was well run but I was a little confused as to why they separated the girls and the guys in transition for the first time this year rather than racking us by bib #. Kinda strange. Like somebody complained they thought the other sex had cooties so they should separate us. :) This was a REALLY good race to lead up to IMWI. I was able to sufficiently practice my nutrition and electrolyte replacement in extreme conditions and didn't have ANY trouble digesting it. I was very happy. I also have finally realized that no matter how HARD I train I will never be as good as my 2 friends. They are such phenominal athletes with such little training it makes me sorta depressed. I work 2-3 times harder than they do....to no avail. OH well...SIGH. I also realized that my bike race pace at IMWI is going to be NOWHERE near what I thought it would be. At a zone 3 I'll be lucky to average 17mph on that course. I also have changed my IMWI goal after this race. My original IMWI
