  • Comments: This was my 11th 70.3 race and it was my toughest yet. I'm an end of the pack racer anyway, but the wind and heat took its toll.

  • Comments: as usual, WTC puts on a great race. my 7th time doing this 70.3 and it is always a good time and a test of my endurance and training. Not my best performance, but I think there were some positives. This race proves that using my indoor virtual trainer can prepare me well for the bike. And my run wasn't speedy but I enjoyed having a good set of feet without injury this year.

  • Comments: WTC always does a good job with this race. This is my 6th consecutive year doing this 70.3. I am thankful to be able to have done this every year with a fairly decent time, although I would have liked to see the times come down a bit more LOL. Oh well. I really enjoy doing this home turf race, it never gets old. It's tough, and satisfying. This year was especially nice with tame winds and calm seas.

  • Overall course based on my ability: Too hard

  • Comments: I went without expecting too much, I just wanted to finish on time. I stuck with my hydration and nutrition plan and it paid off, as I don't think I trained as much as I should have. What time I did have to train, I trained in the heat to prepare for Kona. I think that paid off as I shave a considerable amount of time not bonking. I am done w/ Kona, looking for other venues with different scenery and conditions. This appears to be a hard race as I was running with people who looked way fitter and had the full ironman tattoos. Being prepared for the heat is key to this race.

  • Comments: A great race and really one I want another shot at. For my first HIM, mistakes were made, consequences were paid. Such an iconic venue with great people and a wonderful course. I'll be back.

  • Comments: This was my first HIM and I jumped right into the deep end with the winds and difficult course. I've raced the Lavaman two other times, swum Hapuna numerous time, and ridden to Hawi several times so I knew what to expect. I may have to return next year just to redeem a relatively poor day.

  • Comments: This was my first WTC race. I was impressed with the organization of the race and the army of volunteers. They were absolutely amazing. I know everyone always writes this, but I'm seriously impressed with how helpful they were and how they stood out there in the heat all day taking care of us. That being said, I think I prefer smaller races. It was nice to have company, but the number of people starting the swim (and I know that was hardly anything compared to a lot of races) and the sheer size of the transition area wasn't very appealing to me.

  • Overall course based on my ability:

  • Comments: This year was by far the hardest of the 3 years I've done Honu, and the hardest race I have ever done overall. It was simply RELENTLESS...I'll use that word again. I was completely humbled by Kona on this day. The co-emcee and former IM world champion Greg Welch has said at the pre race meeting every year that this is one of the toughest 70.3's on the circuit. I have nothing else to compare it to, but I always thought that was bullshit given some of the other course profiles and conditions. Honu doesn't seem that bad on paper, but I'm becoming a believer that it's at least in the top 7-8 toughest 70.3's. Maybe not by finishing time, but just because the race is HARD. The wind, the heat, the grass, the short steep hills on the golf course, etc.

  • Comments: Race and atmosphere are awesome. Volunteers are awesome. Organization is top notch. Course was hard and made harder by the elements. I earned my finisher's hat on this one. Toughest course I've ever done.

  • Comments: Amazing event, very challenging this year due to the extreme winds. Being my third Hawaii 70.3, it was a humbling experience compared to the first two. Although I managed to be within a minute of my last year's time, there wasn't much I could in terms of PR. Mentally I feel I PR'd but the clock tells all.

  • Comments: This race is another top-notch, world-class Ironman event. The only bad thing is the separate transition areas and the access to the Fairmont Orchid hotel. It was a pain to have to take the shuttles back and forth several times - especially since we didn't stay at the Fairmont. The heat and humidity make for a very challenging race. The mass start, no wetsuit swim and riding portions of the Kona course make it very exciting. I would definitely recommend doing it for anyone that gets the chance. Just be prepared for a lot of extra-curricular activities and a very difficult challenge from the elements. We caught a break with the wind. It could have been much worse.

  • Comments: This was a fantastic race. I had a great time in Kona and didn't want to come home. I have so many people to thank as always for this great performance...most notably Brian Stover my coach and Ashley, my wonderful girlfriend who always puts up with me. Also, to all my BT friends, you guys and gals are the best and a great inspiration to keep training and get faster. I'm really looking forward to the next one. I'm thinking I might give Lake Stevens a try to maybe get a slot into Vegas...we'll see.

  • Comments: Awesome race. I don't care what people say about the WTC and Ironman...but this was NOTHING like anything I have ever experienced. From packet pickup to the finish line, there is just a vibe at this event like no other small local race. I can only imagine what Kona is like in October. The volunteers were absolutely amazing. I thanked as many people as I could. Overall...this whole experience from training to race day was awesome. I had so much fun, I can't wait to come back.
