  • Comments: This was a great race put on by a terrific organization. It was the smallest Half that I did this year, but they seemed to have everything that the big races have (even pretzels, bananas, coke, etc at EVERY water station). The course is moderately difficult with the hills on the bike and run, but nothing that triathletes can't experience on any other course. Overall, I'm glad that I did this last Half to end (almost) my 2006 tri season. Even if I wasn't the happiest that I could have been out on the run, I still really enjoyed racing it. It was great to do it with a good group of friends and spectators. The race will hopefully make it onto my schedule in some future season.

  • Comments: A few complaints. The layout inside the park was really tough. You had runners coming and going, fighting with bikers coming in and traffic. This created a real cluster f*ck at times and I would be surprised if no one was injured. Race organizers should revisit the layout. Additionally, there was no food after the race for athletes. Where did it go? It took the sponsor (McAllisters) over an hour to get more sandwiches. That is really poor planning. To make matters worse, there was no food for the crowd to purchase...only cokes (no water, either). Given the temperature and length of race, this was tough on the crowd. From the athletes perspective, I enjoyed the race. Aid stations and volunteers were well placed. I would like to see a bit more police presence on the bike as I encountered a few rude drivers (including one guy who came up behind each biker and honked). I would like to see more post race activities. This could turn into a huge, premier race with a little

  • Comments: I would like another crack at this one. This was my 2nd HIM and 19 minutes faster than my first one so I did have success here. I underestimated the difficulty of this course. Wind and heat were definite factors. The lake is beautiful and while the roads are suspect, the countryside is nice. The SC people were very good hosts. Also, it was really great to have a lot of friends there racing and supporting. Deb (she was great!) and the rest were fun to see as each lap was completed. I have come to really enjoy that part of triathlons. Note for event improvement, double the entrants, double the Porta-Johns. And lose that little freaking hill 50 yds from the tape.

  • Comments: Great race. My buddy crashed a mile into the bike portion and wound up in the hospital. A local lady won her age group. Two other friends had top 30 finishes. Props to the old dude ranger who came by and checked on me that night after the race. He had seen me in the med tent and came to check to see if I was OK. He also came by this morning as I was striking camp to make sure I didn't croak during the night. Thanks to all my peeps who sent the good juju that carried me to the finish. My time and lpacement sucked but the experience is priceless.

  • Comments: I thought the race was well put together. I didn't stick around the finish area long enough to see what was even going on there, but I never saw any food laid out for the athletes. I might have just missed it though. I believe there was some people giving massages but I didn't see them right away and never sought them out, but it would have been a nice thing to do. I enjoyed the race and would do it again. I don't have knowledge of other HIM courses, but I would rank this one as pretty easy if you have some training miles in.

  • Comments: they ran out of food after the race very quickly. aid stations were mostly good. I hate running multiple loops for any road race, so if you hate loops, don't sign up for this. But there were LOTS of great athletes participating, I thought. The heat of the day was rough.

  • Comments: Excellent race, lots of fun, good volunteers, and the tent that sprayed water that racers could go under after finishing is perhaps the best invention ever created!

  • Comments: I refuse to say this was a bad race for me. I made one critical mistake that if I had not done I think a sub 6:30 would have been in the works. I never even remotely felt like I was in any trouble endurance wise. My body (gastro aside) felt strong the whole race. Looking forward to racing a lot lighter next year. The goal of this season was to improve on the bike and this race was a real boost for me as far as the bike was concerned. I wish the season wasn't over...I would really like to see how I could have done with a good run. Brett...you talked me into it, went home and registered for IMLKY!!
