  • Comments: When I was lying on the floor at work with back spasms on Dec. 28, waiting for an ambulance ride to the ER, less than 2 months after signing up for the race, I wasn't sure it would happen. However, J was right there, making me laugh, despite how much pain I was in, and he stuck with me in the ER, taking me to the bathroom when I couldn't walk alone, taking me to the orthopedic surgeon when my foot no longer worked, taking me to the anesthesiologist to get drugs injected into my spine, telling me to take it easy when I got over-zealous, and telling me to not be a sissy when I was ready to give up. We survived training, wedding planning, the actual wedding, a mini-honeymoon, buying a house, selling a house, and moving. I could not have done it without him. It also was so special to have my parents at the race. They thought we were more crazy than normal, but sure enough, they came. Maybe to see me once more before my impending death. No matter the reason, I appreciated their support.

  • Comments: I have been chasing a Kona slot for the past 5 years, realistically the past 3. Last year was a huge disappointment for me with getting hit by a car on mile 2 of the bike. It feels like a huge weight off my sholders to have finally accomplished this goal. Now on to figuring out what my goal is going to be for Hawaii next October.

  • Comments: Overall, I loved the race and the experience. In general, WTC put on a great race, and the vibe around time was tremendous. The pre-race registration was a nightmare, but it was only one day. The race itself and the post race atmosphere was great. The volunteers were also great, and can't be thanked enough. Finally, the crowd support on the run was a lot of fun.

  • Comments: I loved this race and I'm doing it again next year. My goal was to PR and my best IM time was 14:31. I shaved off 1:30 which I am extacted about. My ultimate goal was to come in under 13 which I did. Now to next year's goal of 12:30 !

  • Comments: The next day was time to enjoy the beach, and hang out with my uncle. We bought some beer after pigging out on Mexican and ice cream, and I was out cold after drinking half of the 24 ounce bottle… ouch! Thanks to my family, friends and coworkers that put up with me through all the training, I know it’s annoying sometimes, but it’s what I do. You’ll be glad to know that I’m taking a year off from long distance triathlons ;-)

  • Comments: More toilets in transition please. Also, more lights in the park, crap it was like spellunking out there. If they could tweak the bike course to avoid the one out/back where special needs is that would be good. And more ref's to eliminate the bike cheating and the pacers on the run course. Really, you need a pacer? Come on dude. I loved this race. I gained ground with every transition. It was the hardest one for me and yet I did it. Not my fastest, not my slowest. The porridge was just right.

  • Comments: First off I don't think doing this distance is possible without a strong support system at home and I have the best! Connie puts up with the long workouts on the weekends and worries about me when I am gone. On race day she is the best cheerleader out there! Everyone should be as fortunate as I am!! Thanks also to all the other BT'ers that did this race and participated in the IMFL race thread! Great group that kept me motivated and my focus on the race! Also the pemmstate mentor thread is an awesome group that gave me a lot of knowledge, support and motivation as well! Thanks guys! I also need to give a huge thanks to all my friends here on BT for the inspires and support, and when I actually managed to spend some time at home I was fortunate enough to get to train with some of you!

  • Comments: I was very happy with my performance in this race. It was a great first IM for me. I was sore the next day, but not any more sore than after a stand alone marathon. My body did well with the training volume and I enjoyed it. I do think there is another IM in my future, but not for at least a year. I need to be a mom for a while.

  • Comments: Ironman Florida is in the books. Definitely not my day. I had a great swim, a pretty darn good (for me) bike, and then just completely fell apart on the run. I need to figure out why I get the shits during Ironman. It really ruins the day for me. And the cold temperatures didn't help. It was definitely an unseasonable day for Florida. i doubt we'll see temps this cold during the race again for awhile! As for the actual race, great swim course, great bike course, the run course could use some work. It was quite dark and desolate. And the aid stations are not very evenly spaced. Sometimes they would be very very close and other times it seemed like forever before you got to one. And they were running out of things late in the race. And unlike IMAZ the support at them really dwindled as the evening wore on. I swear that a few aid stations were manned by a handful of people as I finished the second loop. Really weird. Not sure what else to say. Glad I finished, but definitely

  • Comments: IMFL is a good race for first time IMers, especially if you think you might have trouble making the finish cutoff time, because it's a very fast course.

  • Comments: Other than some unexpected cooler weather for Florida, that is out of the control of everyone, I really enjoyed this race and experience. Something about staying in a beach setting and doing my first IM, just made sense and added to the excitement and enjoyment of the week. I want to thank everyone on the BT IMFL forum, as it was so helpful hearing from those that were seasoned veterns and those that were new to this distance like me. Congrats to all of you, and it was nice meeting many of you during the week. I was also thrilled to do the race with my soon to be brother-in-law, Brian Seacat, a BT lurker ... Having someone to stress with and bounce things off made all the difference. Thanks Brian. Alright, which IM is next ...

  • Comments: It's been a great journey getting here and I'm so happy that I completed it. Could I have gone faster? More than likely, but I'm very happy with how the entire day went and how well I'm currently recovering. I was pretty haphazard with my training and didn't follow a coach or any kind of plan whatsoever other than perusing over the BT IM plan to see how they laid out the week or two before the race. The energy there was amazing and I'm proud to call myself an Ironman. I've already been looking at the ironman.com side trying to figure out when and which one I'd like to do next, I won't be surprised with myself if I'm back in PCB in November to volunteer and race again in 2012. This year's training stats: 2010 totals Bike: 168h 11m 42s - 3076.33 Mi Run: 63h 36m 18s - 448.25 Mi Swim: 54h 10m 34s - 154882.5 Yd Longest: Bike: 102 miles Run: 14 miles Swim 4200 yards Peak Training Week: 12 Hours

  • Comments: I think this was my best executed IM of my four and I'm quite proud of the whole thing. it was my second fastest all around and faster than last year in much worse conditions. I could have navigated a little better on the swim and have room for improvement pushing myself over distance but I drafted well, handled the conditions well and I'm pleased with it. I'm very proud of the bike. I pushed hard the whole way and dealt with the wind and cold well. Certainly I think it wore me down over time but I came off the bike feeling pretty good energy wise, although my right hammy was quite sore. I came off the bike 29th in my age group. I adapted well on the run and did my best. My best is pretty slow but I was very focused and I am good with it. Thanks to my mom and dad for coming out and cheering and my dad for schleping my stuff and Jen's back to the condo and her truck. Its a long day for them but being at Boardwalk this year helped a ton. They seem to have come to terms

  • Comments: A fantastic race. Organized very well. Run very well. (Very expensive, though). That night, I could never fathom another Iron distance race. Next AM, I was still hurting, but maybe I'll sign up for the lottery. Monday AM, I could start to visualize improvements if I trained better. Today, working out new training plans, seeing which races in 2011 are open (1/2 or full). I love triathlon, even though I am so slow....

  • Comments: The only issue I saw was registration. We were supposed to register by 4:00pm on Thursday. We arrived at 2:00pm, and stood in line for 1.5 hours, but made it in. There was still a line, just as long, when I was done. It seems that they could have done more of that work in parallel.

  • Comments: Say what you want about WTC, but they executed the hell out of this race. This was exactly the experience I was looking for and they fulfilled their end of the deal. My hats are off to the race organizers and volunteers for a fantastic race.

  • Comments: Ironman Perform sport bottle tops suck. I really wish they would switch to the pop-out nipple kind of top. The Girl Zone is awesome but could definitely be a little longer. Kristen Stantz is awesome and I wish I wasn't in so much of a rush that I could of at least given her a hug instead of a quick handshake, maybe even buy her a drink. I apologize if I had been a pain in the ass with my case. Colt, Dalan, Adam, Ryan, Mikel and Jake are some of the best dudes you could ever have in your life and will make some of the best Navy EOD Techs there ever will be as well as the best support crew and Ironman can have. Too bad none of them are hot girls. Again, I saw a dude poop his pants. And it was gross.

  • Comments: It was an amazing experience and something that I will never forget. I will do another someday. I just dont feel the need to to focus entirely on that distance. I enjoy the short course racing and being able to redline it for most of the race, also I like to race more often then 2 or 3 times per year.

  • Comments: This race is about as easy as Ironman courses get. The weather was awesome except for the slight wind on the bike. I really like panama city beach this time of year. The weather was is great for working out and sitting on the beach. I am probably going back to panama city beach next year at the same time even though I am not doing the race again just because I liked the area and the price and quality of accommodations so much.
