  • Comments: Lots and lots of college kids in the race -- it was sponsored by the Stanford Triathlon Club. Anyways, I felt really, really old. This was my first official race in the 50-54 AG.

  • Comments: Overall, very happy with my performance. Dropped about 9 minutes from time last year. Improved all three legs and in T1 and T2. This was a good race for me. I did mess up my age category. I had thought (turns out correctly) that racing age is age at end of the calendar year, which should be 40. When I picked up my race number, they had me at 39. I asked, but the guy told me race age is age on race day. So I ended up in the wrong starting group. Made my swim time on the prelim results look really good, but timing people were able to correct it. It was my bad for not pushing what I knew was the right rule, but glad it turned out ok.

  • Comments: The actual race day was organized and executed very well from my first-timer perspective. I was very disappointed with the pre-race organization and communication. There was little information available until the week leading up to the race. But the race day itself made up for this.

  • Comments: I really enjoyed this race as a first triathlon. Open water swim was a good first attempt for me. It was in the open water, but in a protected harbor, so wasn't too rough. No climbs on the bike or run, so made the course good for a first timer. I very much enjoyed competing in the triathlon and am looking forward to doing it again.

  • Comments: I think I would have come in around a 1:22ish, like 90-100 overall and about 30ish of girls. But I am not getting in the ocean til it's warmer out. Not fun!

  • Comments: This was a fun race. It was much lower-key than the one in November, but that makes sense since it's mostly a fundraiser for the Stanford tri team. It's a little annoying that they didn't break out transition times, but otherwise, everything seemed well run.

  • Comments: Very good race. Waiting for my swim wave to start in the cold was terrible. Other than that, there were tons of volunteers to help direct racers through the course, and the post race spread was impressive. This is a collegiate race, so most of the participants were college kids (who obviously have much more time to train than I do).
