  • Comments: The Flying Pig is always worth doing, if it falls into my plans for the year. Not sure when or if I'll actually "race" it again, but we'll see. That was #8 pig for me, and I'd rather do races I've never been to instead of pounding out the same old races every year.

  • Comments: The PIG is awesome! It is my hometown race and I am SO lucky to have it right here! This is such a great, well run event. Awesome swag ~ this year was a soft sided cooler (which I will def use!). The volunteers are the best! Aid stations everywhere; not just typical stuff either. This year I got gummy bears, a twizzler, some jelly beans, a piece of banana, an orange slice. I passed up alot of other stuff, too. The spectators were out if full force this year, too. The party areas are SO much fun!! LOVED the "PIG" themed house in Mariemont. Very few areas without TONS of people cheering! The PIG is AWESOME!!

  • Comments: Course support could not be better. Water and gatorade every mile. Misting stations, Gu at miles 18 and 22, cold towel, body glide station. Medical personel very prevelent. Crowd was fantastic throughout, but the highlights were running through Downtown Cincinnati, Eden Park, Hyde Park, Mariemont, and the Finish. Lots of people passing out orange slices, jelly beans, and more.

  • Comments: Nice course- lots of small, gently rolling hills, which I actually prefer to pancake-flat. I think it's easier on the muscles to change things up a bit. The "big" hill wasn't hard at all- very gentle grade. But then, I trained on hills this time, so I was ready. I also enjoyed the scenery, and it changed often enough to give me something to look at. I think they added quite a few drink stations because of the heat- sometimes every half-mile! The on-course support was excellent, though no Gu until mile 18 and 22. Gatorade, water, oranges and candy. Lots of porta-potties on course, medical stations, and a couple where they gave out things like lube and blister treatments. I got several spray-downs along the way to stay cool. And the "hog wash" station was the bomb- they handed out cold wet towels, which I used to wipe the crusty sweat off my face! The course was pretty crowded for the first several miles (drink stations were NUTS), and lots of people (walkers!) seeded themselves in the

  • Comments: Always a top notch event. Extremely well organized from start to finish. So nice to have a big time marathon right at home. The volunteers were amazing this year! Apparently there were 4000 of them in the rain and all were so motivating! Thanks to all of you!

  • Comments: This is a must do race! It would be a great 1st marathon because of all the people in the crowd support. Even in the rain there were thousands of fans cheering. A good course to BQ on as well. Most of the hills are early and the last 16 miles are generally downhill.

  • Comments: You know, I was expecting to feel a lot different about the finish. Everyone said I would be on cloud nine and I am proud of the accomplishment. I will have a "26.2" sticker on my car until I die. However, it wasn't the euphoric experience some people explained to be. Not sure why that is, but it is. I was slightly bummed about 4:21, since I wanted to be closer to 4:00. Later on that night, Taneen (the veteran marathoner) emailed me and said it was the hardest marathon course she's ever done. I feel better! Over the last four months, a lot of people have asked "why are you running a marathon?" For a lot of reasons, I guess. For starters, I enjoy training FOR something. It's not as much to run or bike just to run or bike. Secondly, my hope is that the two sets of little eyes watching Dad's every move see that living a somewhat healty lifestyle is important and that they pick up some of those habits. Not that I don't drink my share of beer and eat my share of wings, but hopefully

  • Comments: Once again, The Flying Pig Marathon is the best race I have ever been involved in. I will continue to come back and do at least the half marathon as long as I am able. Organization and crowd support are second to none. The price is good and the goodies and medal are all nice. Highly recommended.

  • Comments: Pros: Good, well-organized race, over 15,000 runners (4,030 marathoners, 8,587 in the half, and 2,472 in the relay), events went off on time, plenty of enthusiastic volunteers and spectators, waterstops and entertainment every mile. Cons: Too crowded at the start, nasty-tasting water, waterstops need specific instructions on how to mix the Gatorade concentrate. And kind of hilly. All in all, a great race. Highly recommended. Oh, and Dylan won his age group in the Pump-and-Run!

  • Comments: Organization - A+. Volunteers - A+. Specator support - A+. I have no other marathons to compare with, but this was just a fantastic experience. I might not have enjoyed every minute of the run, but upon reflection, it was an awesome, well run, emotionally thrilling, and very rewarding day for me. During the last 5 miles and right after the race, I was pretty sure that this might be my first and last marathon... one and done. By Sunday evening I was already thinking about next year, and what other marathons I might like to train for. I think it is amazing how the spectators treat the runners like we are heros and rock stars, but as a runner, I saw it the other way around. Great day, great race.

  • Comments: The Flying Pig Marathon is the best race I have ever been involved in! Bar none! I felt like everything is done to support the average runner, guys like me. The crowd support is unparalleled... even better than the Disney marathon which was great. As long as the Flying Pig is around and I am capable of running it, I will be there! They have found a customer for life.

  • Comments: This was a great race. Expo was very smooth and orderly, lots of vendors and easy to get through quickly. The race was delayed for about 15 minutes because a buiolding on the course had caught fire during the night and the Fire Dept was still working it. The race announcer did a great job of letting everybody know what was going on and why things were late and when they would get started. The course was very good. Enough hills to be challenging but the downhills were nice, too. Aid stations at every mile with the gatorade and water sidely separated and easy to get to. Gel and fruit at a couple of stations. The post race spread was nice and spread out. Nice tech t shirt, nice duffle bag premium. Overall, this was one of the top or 2 races I've done. I would highly recommend it to anyone. The staff and volunteers were great. Spectators were plentiful and supportive.

  • Comments: As stated above....the mile marker situation ticked me off. Those without GPS devices were probably wondering why their spits were getting progressively worse. Because of the rerouting of the course due to the fire, they said they were going to "requalify" the course after the race, so I wonder what that means. Either way, I'm happy.
